The London International Airport is adding a new carrier to its roster this fall.<\/p>\n
Toronto-based Porter Airlines is set to fly out of the airport for the first time in its history starting in November, airline officials announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Starting with four non-stop flights to sunny destinations in the late fall and early winter, the airline also said it is “committed to building a domestic network out of London by summer 2027.”<\/p>\n
The new flights and their start dates are as follows:<\/p>\n
London to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, four times weekly, starting on Nov. 18.London to Orlando, Florida, three times weekly, starting on Nov. 19.London to Cancun, Mexico, four times weekly, starting on Dec. 17.London to Montego Bay, Jamaica, two times weekly, starting on Dec 18.<\/p>\n
“We are proud to welcome Porter Airlines to YXU and to celebrate an airline that will reshape connectivity for our region,\u201d said Scott McFadzean, president and CEO, London International Airport, in a news release. <\/p>\n
\u201cFor years, our region has been underserved when it comes to air service, with residents and businesses often travelling outside the region to access the connectivity they need.”<\/p>\n
According to Porter, the winter routes will operate on new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which feature no middle seats.<\/p>\n
Flights on the new routes are now available for booking, they said.<\/p>\n
It’s unclear as of yet what the future domestic flights out of London will look like, but airline officials said they would connect “locations across Canada with Southwestern Ontario\u2019s largest city.”<\/p>\n
More details will be introduced at a later date, Porter officials said.<\/p>\n
London Mayor Josh Morgan said the commitment from Porter to open routes to other parts of Canada is a big win for London as a regional transportation hub.<\/p>\n
“This is huge for the region because we have 2 million people within an hour drive of London that can access this airport and use it as one of their main hubs for accessing other parts of the country and the world,” Morgan said. <\/p>\n
Morgan also said more \u2014 and better \u2014 use of the airport is in line with London’s priorities and needs as a growing city.<\/p>\n
“This is an airport that has tremendous commercial opportunities ahead of it.
