The Toronto Blue Jays have taken some time in a tumultuous season to celebrate one of the greatest periods in franchise history, with members of the 1992 and 1993 World Series championship teams returning to Rogers Centre.<\/p>\n
It has provided a nostalgic reminder of what made those clubs so special \u2014 and of the stars who helped Toronto win back-to-back championships.<\/p>\n
\u201cWalking back onto this field, one after the other, the old World Series champions were all 25 years old again,\u201d MLB.com\u2019s Keegan Matheson reported<\/a> as members of those teams visited Rogers Centre this season. \u201cMost of them would do this every weekend, if they could. All in town to celebrate the unveiling of the Back-to-Back World Series Statue, they could step back into the best days of their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n One of the key players from those championship teams, however, remains exiled from the organization after the Blue Jays severed ties with him following Major League Baseball’s investigation into an allegation of sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n And now that former Toronto superstar is now speaking openly about another painful chapter involving the franchise \u2014 and some hard feelings for CEO Mark Shapiro.<\/p>\n ForbesFormer Astros MVP Takes Over For GM Dana Brown After Sudden ExitBy Peter Chawaga<\/a>Toronto Blue Jays Hall Of Famer Shares Betrayal By CEO Mark Shapiro<\/p>\n Roberto Alomar became one of the defining players in Blue Jays history after Toronto acquired him from the San Diego Padres in the blockbuster deal that also brought Joe Carter to Canada.<\/p>\n During five seasons with Toronto, Alomar became a five-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner while helping the Blue Jays capture consecutive World Series titles. His 1992 ALCS performance against Oakland, including a dramatic home run off Dennis Eckersley, remains one of the most celebrated moments in franchise history.<\/p>\n But his relationship with the organization changed dramatically after he ended his playing days.<\/p>\n Toronto permanently distanced itself from Alomar after commissioner Rob Manfred concluded that he had violated MLB’s policies following an independent investigation. The Blue Jays removed Alomar’s name from their Level of Excellence, ended his role as an executive consultant and excluded him from alumni celebrations.<\/p>\n That included the recent reunion honoring the 1992 and 1993 championship teams. But evidently Alomar\u2019s feelings about one key member of the organization changed while he was still playing.<\/p>\n Mark Shapiro, who is now the team\u2019s CEO but was the Cleveland Indians\u2019 GM at the time, traded him to the New York Mets before the 2002 season, something Alomar has now revisited with some hard feelings.<\/p>\n \u201cWe didn\u2019t have an argument. What happened was we had a conversion, person to person, where he told me that he wasn\u2019t going to trade me, and then two days later I got traded,\u201d Alomar revealed to the Toronto Star\u2019s Rosie DiManno<\/a>. \u201cAnd he never even called me.\u201d<\/p>\n Shapiro ultimately decided to sever ties with Alomar as the leader of the Blue Jays, but the Hall of Famer had already been let down by the executive due to that trade decision.<\/p>\n \u201cI felt betrayed by him,\u201d Alomar added, per DiManno.<\/p>\n
