Rams legend Eric Dickerson says NFL told teams not to draft Shedeur Sanders, warned Browns<\/a> originally appeared on The Sporting News<\/a><\/p>\n

The saga of Shedeur Sanders continues to unfold just as the 2025 season is about to begin.<\/p>\n

According to Rams legend and NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, the NFL had an agenda against Sanders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NFL told teams, \u2018Do not draft him. We\u2019re gonna make an example out of him,\u2019\u201d Dickerson said. \u201cThis came from a very good source. A very good source. And he said somebody called the Cleveland Browns and said, \u2018Don\u2019t do that. Don\u2019t draft him.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanders was projected as a first-round pick for months leading up to the NFL Draft. Instead, he slid all the way to the fifth round, becoming the Browns\u2019 final selection.<\/p>\n

Many have questioned how a quarterback projected to go higher than several names taken before him could experience such a drastic fall.<\/p>\n

Sanders\u2019 personality rubbed some people the wrong way, and his father \u2014 Colorado head coach Deion Sanders \u2014 was likely another factor in the plummet.<\/p>\n

Still, if there truly was a coordinated plan within the NFL to tank Sanders\u2019 draft stock, it\u2019s a heinous move \u2014 and one that could eventually warrant investigation.<\/p>\n

For now, Sanders is fighting to earn a spot on the Browns\u2019 roster in what remains a four-man quarterback room. Typically, teams don\u2019t carry four quarterbacks into the regular season. The Browns, however, could be the outlier.<\/p>\n

One of Sanders biggest competitions<\/a> will be against the quarterback selected before him in the third round, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel.<\/p>\n
