\n\tAustralian supernatural horror \u201cEffigy<\/a>\u201d has completed production and unveiled its first look images, co-starring South Australian actor Chris Gun, who played Noel Gallagher in Michael Gracey\u2019s \u201cBetter Man.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tDirected by Myles McEwen and Ripley Stevens, \u201cEffigy\u201d is set in 1989 England and follows the Marsh family as they endure a violent haunting sparked by the unearthing of a mysterious effigy doll. An entity behind the disturbance grows increasingly fixated on the family\u2019s daughter, prompting two paranormal investigators to dig into what becomes a traumatic case. The film carries a psychosexual undertone and touches on depression, identity and faith.<\/p>\n

\n\tMcEwen and Stevens previously directed \u201cNightfall: A Paranormal Investigation,\u201d which is set for a worldwide release in the coming months. <\/p>\n

\n\tMcEwen said the filmmakers took a different approach on \u201cEffigy\u201d than on their earlier work. \u201cWe poured our hearts and souls into this one. Unlike our previous features, we followed a standard storytelling model and chose to explore a depression that many of us can relate to. Through this, there\u2019s a genuine heartbeat and soul that emerged from the film. We shot and designed the film to feel straight out of 1989, capturing the magic of cinema from that era.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGun previously appeared as Benny in Kelly Schilling\u2019s \u201cWith or Without You.\u201d He is joined in \u201cEffigy\u201d by Lauren Koopowitz, who plays an exorcist. Koopowitz is known for her voice work in \u201cHollow Knight: Silksong\u201d and for a viral role in Michael and Danny Philippou\u2019s YouTube series \u201cAsh Vlogs.\u201d Adelaide actor David Daradan and New Zealand actress Saya Kraetzer round out the cast as Daniel and Ashleigh Marsh, the parents at the center of the haunting.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEffigy\u201d is a Black Mandala Films<\/a> production. Michael Kraetzer and Nicol\u00e1s Onetti served as executive producers. Michael Kraetzer said the film pushes the genre forward. \u201cEffigy takes supernatural Horror to new heights. An exorcism with psychosexual undertones. It\u2019s genuinely terrifying to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe filmmakers unveiled two frames from \u201cEffigy\u201d and will premiere the film at a major festival. McEwen offered a cryptic tease about what audiences can expect. \u201cLet\u2019s just say \u2026 she\u2019s already here.\u201d<\/p>\n
