On the heels of their contract agreement with Jonathan Kuminga, the Minnesota Timberwolves have made a trade to clear cap space and add more depth to their backcourt. <\/p>\n
Per ESPN’s Shams Charania<\/a>, the Timberwolves are acquiring former top-10 pick Cody Williams and John Konchar from the Utah Jazz for Josh Green and cash. <\/p>\n Charania and The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski<\/a> reported the Wolves plan to waive Konchar. <\/p>\n A move was expected from Minnesota because it didn’t have the necessary cap space available to add Kuminga’s\u00a0two-year, $12.4 million contract<\/a>\u00a0and stay out of the second apron.<\/p>\n Green, who was acquired from the Charlotte Hornets as part of the LaMelo Ball trade, made the most sense as a trade candidate because he is playing the 2026-27 season on a\u00a0$14.7 million<\/a>\u00a0expiring contract.<\/p>\n The Jazz needed another wing who can play off the bench or step into the starting lineup if Lauri Markkanen misses time due to injuries. Green is also an effective three-point shooter with a 38.7 percent success rate on a low volume in his career.<\/p>\n Williams and Konchar are combining to make roughly $12.2 million this season. By waiving and stretching Konchar’s contract, the Timberwolves can pay out his\u00a0$6.2 million<\/a>\u00a0salary over the next three years instead of one lump sum in 2026-27.<\/p>\n
