This year’s 38th issue of Kodansha<\/a>‘s Morning<\/a> magazine announced on Thursday that Machiko Ky\u014d<\/a> will launch a new series Rusuban Neko Kinako (House-Sitting Cat Kinako) in the Morning two<\/a> online magazine on August 28.<\/p>\n The series follows a little girl who is left behind after an earthquake and a nuclear power plant accident with her cat. The two wait at home for the return of their family as they continue to housesit.<\/p>\n Ky\u014d released the Cocoon<\/a> manga in 2010, 65 years after the end of World War II. The manga is inspiring<\/a> an anime (pictured right) that will air<\/a> on NHK<\/a> on August 25. Hitomi Tateno<\/a>, a veteran Studio Ghibli<\/a> animator, is the animation producer, with the studio Sasayuri<\/a> producing the anime. The anime’s 2025 release comes 80 years after the end of World War II.<\/p>\n Ky\u014d launched the Suzume no Gakk\u014d (Suzume’s School) manga on Amutus Corporation’s Mecha Comic platform in June 2022. The series ended<\/a> with the third compiled book volume on April 17.<\/p>\n Ky\u014d debuted<\/a> the Orizuru<\/a> manga in Akita Shoten<\/a>‘s Elegance Eve<\/a> magazine in March 2024. <\/p>\n Ky\u014d published the Mitsuami no Kami-sama<\/a> manga in Shueisha<\/a>‘s now-defunct<\/a> Jump X (Jump Kai<\/a>) magazine in 2013, and Shueisha published the manga’s first and only compiled book volume in the same year. The manga won<\/a> an award in the 18th Annual Osamu Tezuka<\/a> Cultural Prize in March 2014. The manga inspired Production I.G<\/a>‘s Pigtails<\/a> 28-minute short anime film. The short made<\/a> its international debut in April 2016 at the WorldFest Houston International Film Festival, where it won the Platinum Remi Award in the Classic Cel Animation Category. Pigtails has won multiple<\/a> awards, including<\/a> the Diamond Award in the Animated Film category at the 2016 California Film Awards.
