{"id":875929,"date":"2026-08-29T15:06:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T15:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/875929\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T15:06:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T15:06:11","slug":"police-arrest-prolific-offender-behind-38-thefts-in-gtha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/875929\/","title":{"rendered":"Police arrest &#8216;prolific offender&#8217; behind 38 thefts in GTHA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A man who police described as a \u201cprolific offender\u201d allegedly responsible for at least three dozen thefts across the Golden Horseshoe has been arrested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peelpolice.ca\/news-feed\/posts\/project-bishop-mississauga-man-faces-38-charges-following-retail-theft-investigation-pr240182824\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.peelpolice.ca\/news-feed\/posts\/project-bishop-mississauga-man-faces-38-charges-following-retail-theft-investigation-pr240182824\/\">Peel Regional Police said<\/a> they launched an investigation dubbed \u201cProject Bishop\u201d targeting the man in April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Investigators, over the course of two months, linked the man to at least 38 theft-related incidents across the Regions of Peel, Halton, Durham, and Niagara, as well as the City of Hamilton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said the man allegedly stole merchandise valued between $50 and more than $4,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a news release on Friday, police announced that the suspect, 49-year-old Anthony Orlando Monteith from Mississauga, was arrested on June 19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He was charged with 24 counts of theft under $5,000 and 14 counts of possession of property obtained by crime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said they searched residences in Mississauga and Welland after he was arrested, resulting in the recovery of more than $35,000 worth of stolen clothing, cosmetics, and personal accessories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The investigation continues, and police said other incidents could be linked to Monteith, which would result in further charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis is another reminder that retail crime knows no borders, and neither does our response,\u201d Peel police Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in a statement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A man who police described as a \u201cprolific offender\u201d allegedly responsible for at least three dozen thefts across&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":875930,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[194297],"tags":[712,49,48,55405],"class_list":["post-875929","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mississauga","tag-apple-news","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-mississauga"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/875929","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=875929"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/875929\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/875930"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=875929"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=875929"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=875929"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
