<\/p>\nBefore standing trial for the death of her three children, Lindsay Clancy spoke to a psychiatrist about her life at the mental health hospital she’s called home for more than three years.<\/p>\n
When Dr. Avram Mack, a psychiatrist and expert witness for the prosecution, took the stand on Aug. 21, he testified about his interviews with Clancy at Tewksbury Hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Mack, Clancy was “friendly and cooperative” as they spoke in April. She shed light on an average day for her at the psychiatric facility, noting she tends to keep to herself.<\/p>\n
“Mostly, she described, she stays in bed or on her own,” he recalled. “I don’t think she described interacting with patients very much. There were a couple of ways in which she did interact with staff, at least. There was a therapist that she described working with.”<\/p>\n

Clancy, who is paralyzed from the waist down, also had worked with a physical therapist at Tewksbury.<\/p>\n
“She stated she wasn’t very interested in the physical therapy that she was getting there,” he noted. “She wasn’t interested in the food there.”<\/p>\n
Family and religious figures also stopped by to see her at the hospital. “She described having visitors,” Mack said, “on a not infrequent basis, and that sometimes, she was able to eat food or drinks that were brought in by them.”<\/p>\n
According to Mack, Clancy also described in their conversation “that she wasn’t very interested in her own hygiene or grooming.”<\/p>\n
“Showering is embarrassing. It requires staff to help her, and that’s one way in which she would rather not,” he testified of Clancy, who uses a wheelchair. “It may also be that she described a lack of interest\u2014so, it’s both components.”<\/p>\n
Clancy also spoke to her mental state, allegedly detailing her grief over her current situation.<\/p>\n
“She described feeling depressed, which she termed situational depression,” the psychiatrist said. “She described feeling\u2014I’m not sure the exact term she used\u2014but feeling miserable, not wanting to be alive.”<\/p>\n

The prosecution and defense presented their closing arguments on Aug. 27, and the jury began deliberations on a verdict.<\/p>\n Clancy is facing three counts of first-degree murder in the 2023 deaths of her and her ex-husband Patrick Clancy’s three children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan. While prosecutors contend that Clancy acted “intentionally, rationally, and swiftly” and knew right from wrong, her defense team argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings and therefore is not criminally responsible.<\/p>\n If convicted of first-degree murder, Clancy faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
