As the whole world is talking about a certain other rainbow jersey<\/a>, good news, sports fans: you\u2019re going to be able to see Eve Buczkowski\u2019s rainbow jersey in action soon.<\/p>\n

The Talbotville, Ont., rider won the junior women\u2019s points race at the junior track world championships in Belgium, earning Canada a gold medal and herself a world champion\u2019s jersey.<\/p>\n

Rainbow debut<\/p>\n

Now that jersey will make its way back to the Mattamy National Cycling Centre, where Buczkowski has spent the past several years racing and training with Milton Revolution Racing.<\/p>\n

For Martin Honsberger, a coach and sports director with Milton Revolution Racing, seeing one of the team\u2019s riders win a world title was exciting. But it wasn\u2019t exactly a shock.<\/p>\n

\u201cA Canadian winning a world championship in a European-dominated sport is always a very pleasant surprise. But shocking? Not really,\u201d Honsberger said. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen how hard she works, and we\u2019ve seen the progression.\u201d<\/p>\n

Buczkowski\u2019s progression<\/p>\n

Honsberger has worked with Buczkowski for about four years and says the competitive drive that took her to the rainbow jersey has been there from the beginning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe drive to find the finish line first has always been there, it\u2019s who she is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Buczkowski\u2019s world title capped an impressive week in Belgium. Earlier in the championships, she helped Canada\u2019s junior women\u2019s team pursuit squad set a new national record. Canada qualified second behind Great Britain in the team pursuit before eventually finishing fourth.<\/p>\n

The points race gold added another major result to what has already been a strong 2026 season.<\/p>\n

Buczkowski won eight medals at the Canadian junior track championships earlier this year, including gold in the team pursuit, and has also spent plenty of time racing on the road.<\/p>\n

Her season has included some great rides at Tour de l\u2019Abitibi Femmes and Coupe de l\u2019Avenir, along with strong racing in Europe.<\/p>\n

For Milton Revolution, though, the significance of Buczkowski\u2019s victory goes beyond the result itself.
\u201cHaving a Milton rider win a world championship is huge, we are all so excited for her,\u201d Honsberger said. \u201cWe have been fortunate to have some incredible athletes choose us. Great athletes and great people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Honsberger said the team\u2019s supportive environment has been an important part of Buczkowski\u2019s development. He also pointed to some of his favourite moments from the past two years. And not necessarily her victories, but the times she put her teammates first.<\/p>\n

On Buczkowski\u2019s strong team spirit<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of my favourite Eve moments over the past two years have been watching her selflessly support teammates,\u201d he said. \u201cShe\u2019s a true champion.\u201d<\/p>\n

That makes seeing the rainbow jersey hanging at Milton\u2019s velodrome particularly meaningful.<\/p>\n

\u201cSurreal is a great word to use,\u201d Honsberger said. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see it in action at the Mattamy Cycling Centre.\u201d<\/p>\n

And he hopes Buczkowski\u2019s jersey becomes more than just a reminder of what she has accomplished.<\/p>\n
