{"id":878496,"date":"2026-08-31T18:08:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T18:08:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/878496\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T18:08:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T18:08:14","slug":"reports-orioles-claim-luis-robert-jr-yankees-get-john-schreiber","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/878496\/","title":{"rendered":"Reports: Orioles claim Luis Robert Jr., Yankees get John Schreiber"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of American League East teams are making some moves for the stretch run.<\/p>\n<p>Both players were placed on outright waivers on Sunday \u2014 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/new-york-mets\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"new-york-mets\" data-league=\"mlb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York Mets<\/a> and Kansas City Royals, respectively \u2014 giving teams across MLB the chance to claim them. They&#8217;ll be eligible for the post-season should the Yankees and Orioles secure their spots.<\/p>\n<p>Robert is owed a little more than $5 million guaranteed for the remainder of the season and has a $20-million option on his contract for 2027, while Schreiber is set to become a free agent after this season. <\/p>\n<p>Robert landed with the Mets in an off-season trade with the Chicago White Sox, but he has battled injuries and inconsistency in what has amounted to a disappointing campaign in Queens. Over 56 games, the seven-year MLB veteran is slashing .229\/.310\/.410 with 10 homers and two stolen bases.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the tempered season-long line, Robert has shown some life as of late, hitting six home runs and carrying a 1.015 OPS over his last 17 games.<\/p>\n<p>Schreiber, meanwhile, has a 3.65 ERA and 36 strikeouts through 49.1 innings out of Kansas City&#8217;s bullpen this season.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old right-hander has been a consistent relief option over the past five seasons. Since 2022, he has thrown at least 45 innings in each season and has never seen his ERA climb above 3.86.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A couple of American League East teams are making some moves for the stretch run.
