{"id":878500,"date":"2026-08-31T18:12:19","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T18:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/878500\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T18:12:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T18:12:19","slug":"leafs-forward-max-domi-shows-his-softer-side-announces-his-engagement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/878500\/","title":{"rendered":"Leafs forward Max Domi shows his softer side, announces his engagement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>Toronto Maple\u00a0Leafs\u00a0forward Max Domi\u00a0earns\u00a0serious\u00a0cash\u00a0skating on ice, but\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0also not afraid to\u00a0purchase\u00a0serious\u00a0ice, either.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>The rugged forward is now engaged to\u00a0longtime girlfriend and makeup artist Estelle Philips, the news making\u00a0the rounds on social media on Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The son of ex-Maple Leafs fan favourite, Tie Domi, the 31-year-old published an update on his Instagram, making it crystal clear he was about to embark on the next stage of his life. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The caption was playful and innocuous enough, \u201cI love you so much,\u201d but there was no question about the meaning behind it as Estelle was in the photo, beaming ear-to-ear with a large diamond on the ring finger of her left hand. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mitch Marner and Bo Horvat took to social media to congratulate their engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The elder Domi was more emphatic with his words.<\/p>\n<p data-async=\"\">\u201cI\u2019ve never seen two people more ready for this,\u201d Tie said on <a data-evt-val=\"{\" control_fields=\"\" link=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DcqxqB_EWA2\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=Ab2se8PqeEQ3pF-SswzzKCH\" data-evt=\"click\" data-evt-typ=\"click\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>. \u201cIt feels like just yesterday you were my little boy, and now I get to watch you build a life and future with the woman you love. (Instagram)She said \u2018yes\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Assuming she said \u201cyes,\u201d the personal news overrides what has been a tough off-season professionally for the Winnipeg-born Domi. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Domi had back surgery at the end of the season, but complications arose from the procedure, with the Leafs posting an update on social media on May 25.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Domi \u201cwill be out indefinitely,\u201d the\u00a0Leafs\u00a0said.\u00a0\u201cHe\u00a0will continue working with the club\u2019s medical staff and will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The club acknowledged that Domi played through\u00a0an\u00a0issue\u00a0during the 2025-26 regular season, resulting in the operation.\u00a0He played 80 games last season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He had 12 goals and 24 assists and led the team with 95 penalty minutes. Domi also had a career-worst mark of minus-29, the second-lowest on the team after Matthew Knies\u2019 minus-30.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-async=\"\">Toronto Sun columnist <a data-evt-val=\"{\" control_fields=\"\" link=\"\" simmons=\"\" data-evt=\"click\" data-evt-typ=\"click\" href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/sports\/simmons-says-max-domis-health-a-challenging-situation-for-leafs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Simmons<\/a> hinted that Domi could not walk days after the surgery, which created \u201csignificant alarm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Domi is entering the third season of his four-year deal with Toronto (carrying an AAV of $3.75 million).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the issue was with his back, Domi seems to have moved beyond it; he was up and at \u2018em, hosting his inaugural Max Domi Golf Classic at Magna Golf Club in Aurora on July 27. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Training camp opens next month.
