A resurfaced podcast clip has put the Indiana Fever guard’s candid take on the WNBA back in the spotlight, with Cunningham describing a side of the league that fans rarely hear about. Her comments about the league’s behind-the-scenes culture have quickly become a talking point across social media.

Sophie Cunningham’s WNBA comments about the league’s ‘wild’ culture resurface

Cunningham’s remarks came during a February appearance on the “Like a Farmer” podcast. Months later, a short clip from that conversation began circulating again on X, bringing renewed attention to what she said about the contrast between the WNBA and NBA environments.Rather than discussing on-court rivalries or locker-room disputes, Cunningham focused on the conversations and personalities players encounter away from games. She suggested that the WNBA has a particularly close-knit culture, one where teammates can be unusually open with one another.“I think what people don’t understand is, like, the WNBA is so inappropriate… We are just like a funny… Well yeah, tight-knit. But I’m talking about, like, we’ve had people who work for the WNBA, and they go to the NBA and NBA guys, and what they do and what they talk about and all that doesn’t even come close to how, like, how, I don’t know. Like, we’re wild,” Cunningham said during the podcast. The comment was delivered in a lighthearted setting, but its wording has taken on a life of its own after the clip resurfaced. Cunningham made it clear that some of the conversations she was referring to were too personal or outrageous to repeat publicly.“We say some crazy, crazy stuff. And just like, we’re just a fun time over in the W. I don’t know. And I can’t, I can’t repeat a lot of things that I’ve said. Yeah, I’m with you,” Cunningham added. The renewed interest also shows how quickly older interviews can become relevant again when a player is already at the centre of public discussion.

Sophie Cunningham’s old podcast appearance sparks another wave of attention

The latest clip is not the only Cunningham interview to resurface recently. Another segment from her December 2025 appearance on Caleb Pressley’s “Sundae Conversation” has also returned to the spotlight. That conversation touched on a very different subject: whether female athletes should consider platforms such as OnlyFans as an alternative source of income. The discussion turned toward the importance of professional leagues in helping athletes build an audience and establish their public profiles.Cunningham argued that the league itself provides the exposure that allows athletes to develop a fanbase. She also responded with a joke when the conversation turned toward whether such platforms could serve as a financial backup.“No, I think you do need the leagues, because that’s what gives you the platform to have all these fans… Maybe Plan B should support that platform,” Cunningham said during the show. The resurfaced interviews come as Cunningham remains a highly discussed figure in women’s basketball. Her outspoken personality has repeatedly generated conversation, and these older clips offer another glimpse into the candid style that has helped make her a prominent voice beyond the court. On the basketball side, Cunningham continues to contribute for the Indiana Fever. Her recent attention, however, has once again come from what she said away from the hardwood, proving that an old interview can suddenly become fresh news when the internet brings it back into the spotlight.

Sophie Cunningham.
