{"id":879209,"date":"2026-09-01T07:50:21","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T07:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/879209\/"},"modified":"2026-09-01T07:50:21","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T07:50:21","slug":"edmontons-new-bike-park-has-pushed-back-its-grand-opening-daily-hive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/879209\/","title":{"rendered":"Edmonton&#8217;s new bike park has pushed back its grand opening | Daily Hive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Edmonton\u2019s long-awaited mountain bike park will have to wait a little longer for its grand opening, with this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/edmonton\/edmonton-summer-rainfall-record-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">record rainfall<\/a> pushing it back to Spring 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/edmonton\/new-bike-park-edmonton-river-valley-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Edmonton Bike Park,<\/a> located in Queen Elizabeth Park, was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/edmonton\/edmonton-new-bike-park-river-valley-grand-opening\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">originally slated to open on July 25<\/a>, but construction delays have now pushed the date to late May or June 2027.<\/p>\n<p>According to the most recent update from the Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance, repeated rainfall, saturated soils, and drying time pushed construction back by seven weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we know everyone is excited to see the entire park finished \u2014 we are too \u2014 we believe this is the right decision for the project and for Edmonton\u2019s mountain bike community,\u201d the Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance wrote in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edmbikepark.ca\/post\/edmonton-bike-park-grand-opening-moving-to-spring-2027\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">update<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But while the grand opening is being pushed back, riders will still have an opportunity to hit up the trails before then.<\/p>\n<p>As individual trails, features, and areas are completed and deemed safe to ride, they will open to the public. The first two flow trails opened late last season, and more sections are expected to follow as work continues.<\/p>\n<p>The Edmonton Bike Park is a first-of-its-kind mountain biking facility in the city, giving riders a dedicated space to develop their skills across flow trails, jump lines, and skills areas.<\/p>\n<p>The project has been years in the making and came together as a result of volunteer builders working alongside professional companies such as Peak Play and Cabin Works.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/update5.0-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2191551 size-full\" width=\"2361\" height=\"1328\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2191551\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dawson Wildemann<\/p>\n<p>The design incorporates lessons learned from other successful bike parks across North America, including destinations in Whistler, Moab, Bentonville, and several Alberta communities such as Hinton, Nordegg, Canmore, Valemount, and Grande Prairie.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/update5.0-28.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2191553 size-full\" width=\"886\" height=\"1328\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2191553\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dawson Wildemann<\/p>\n<p>The project was funded by a $612,000 grant through the Government of Alberta\u2019s Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP).
