<\/p>\nConstruction of a $1.3-billion hospital in Toronto\u2019s west end just steps from Mississauga is almost halfway complete, officials say.<\/p>\n
The new Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre in Etobicoke, being funded largely by the province via Infrastructure Ontario, is scheduled to open in 2029.<\/p>\n
When completed, the 600,000-sq.-ft. Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre will include a new patient tower described earlier by hospital officials as a modern nine-story facility with more than 350 beds and fully private patient rooms to ensure privacy and enhance infection prevention control.<\/p>\n
Work began in February 2024 and the new hospital, which is part of the Trillium Health Partners health-care network that also includes Mississauga and Credit Valley hospitals, will serve the rapidly growing needs of fast-growing communities, now and in the future, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said earlier.<\/p>\n
Hospital officials hosted a visit by several local MPPs late last week, telling the provincial politicians \u201cthe building has now reached its full height and is nearing halfway toward completion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mississauga-based EllisDon is building The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre, which when open will \u201cincrease our hospital\u2019s capacity to provide quality health care from Milton to Toronto,\u201d THP officials said in 2024.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, THP president and CEO Karli Farrow said the new hospital is being made possible \u201cthrough a historic investment from the Ontario government and a transformative philanthropic contribution from Peter Gilgan and the Gilgan family.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre \u201creflects a shared commitment to advancing accessible, high-quality rehabilitation and complex continuing care, delivered closer to home for people today and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Key features of the new hospital will include:<\/p>\n
Bright therapy spaces on every floor, including purpose-built areas for group rehabilitation.
\nAccessible design elements, natural light and outdoor therapy areas that promote mobility, independence and a supportive environment for patients and families.
\nAdvanced digital technology to support coordinated, patient-centred care and faster clinical decision making.
\nModern environments shaped through engagement with patients, care teams and community members.
\n100 per cent private rooms, with more than 350 rooms designed with input from patients and care teams to meet the needs of our community.<\/p>\n
THP officials said in January 2026 the hospital build, at that time, was \u201cmoving into the next phase focused on enclosing the building and finishing the spaces where patients will receive care.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trillium Health Partners\u2019 three hospitals serve more than 1.7 million people each year and that number is expected to increase by nearly seven times more than the average hospital in Ontario as Peel and Etobicoke continue to grow.<\/p>\n

Following completion of the new Etobicoke hospital, the state-of-the-art Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital<\/a>, located a short distance to the west at Hurontario Street and The Queensway in Mississauga, is expected to open to patients in 2034.<\/p>\n The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, also named for the local developer\/philanthropist who early in 2022 gifted $105 million to the project, will rise to 24 storeys when completed.<\/p>\n Construction began on that hospital in summer 2025.<\/p>\n (Cover photo: Trillium Health Partners)<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n
