If there was any doubt about Ryan Gerard\u2019s work ethic, it was put to bed shortly after the 27-year-old UNC alum\u2019s solo third-place finish at the Tour Championship<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Instead of rest and recovery, Gerard is opting for more golf \u2014 taking a redeye flight overseas hours after falling four strokes shy of Scottie Scheffler\u2019s 16-under mark <\/a>in Atlanta. Gerard is one of a handful of players who played in this month\u2019s FedExCup playoffs who is not taking a Labor Day weekend vacation. <\/p>\n

He told reporters at East Lake that he\u2019s set to play in this week\u2019s Omega European Masters<\/a>, a DP World Tour event held at Golf Club Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re getting ready to grind, season\u2019s not over for me,\u201d Gerard said. \u201cFrustrated with some of the results, a lot of positives, but still work left to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the No. 22-ranked Gerard, the Tour Championship was technically his last chance to sway his Presidents Cup fate. He will know U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker\u2019s decision before he tees off on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Snedeker and Team International captain Geoff Ogilvy are set to name their respective six picks during a special selection show on Golf Channel at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1. <\/a>Some of the contenders vying for Snedeker\u2019s attention \u2014 and final roster spot \u2014 are Jackson Koivun, Akshay Bhatia, Jacob Bridgeman and Michael Brennan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI need to play two more DP World Tour events to maintain not being suspended from their Tour, so that was one of them,\u201d Gerard explained of his decision to play this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cFull transparency, if I get a Presidents Cup spot, I\u2019d love to kind of roll into there being a little bit more prepared,\u201d he added. \u201cI like to play a lot of golf. And if I don\u2019t [make the roster], I\u2019ll probably just stay over there and play Wentworth and the France Open after that. I\u2019ll be ready for whatever the future holds, but I need to get a couple more events in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gerard, who won his lone Tour event at the Barracuda Championship in July 2025<\/a>, said he feels most prepared when he\u2019s in a rhythm. <\/p>\n

He opened the season with a pair of runner-up finishes at the Sony Open and the American Express, and enters the European Masters in good form with three T-10 finishes in his previous six events.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I just keep giving myself chances, eventually one\u2019s going to go in,\u201d said Gerard, who shared the 36-hole lead with Viktor Hovland at the Tour Championship<\/a> but stumbled on Sunday with a 2-over 72. \u201cI won last year. I\u2019ve given myself a few opportunities this year. I have no doubt in my mind that, if I continue putting myself in solid positions, I\u2019ll get it done.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not for a lack of effort, it\u2019s not for a lack of mentality,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s just I didn\u2019t have it as well as I needed it today and just grinded it out hard. Hat\u2019s off to Scottie. 66 out there is pretty nice given some of the pin placements and the conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
