Clarke, 26, hasn’t played with the A’s since he injured his foot on April 20. He then suffered a significant hamstring strain during a triple-A rehab game in May that further delayed his return.

After making his big-league debut last season, the Toronto native quickly made a name for himself as one of the best defenders in the sport by constantly making highlight-reel plays.

But while his glove was among the league’s best, his bat has yet to close the gap.

In 22 MLB games this season, Clarke has a slash line of .170/.228/.189 with just nine total hits. He also struck out 24 times, while walking just four times.

However, he did hit .344 with two homers and a 1.055 OPS over his latest rehab stint, which he will hope to carry over to the big leagues.

Clarke will join an A’s squad that sits tied for last in the AL West with a 53-85 record.

Clarke, 26, hasn’t played with the A’s since he injured his foot on April 20.
