{"id":880871,"date":"2026-09-02T15:38:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T15:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/880871\/"},"modified":"2026-09-02T15:38:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T15:38:12","slug":"what-you-need-to-know-to-vote-in-bramptons-2026-municipal-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/880871\/","title":{"rendered":"What you need to know to vote in Brampton\u2019s 2026 municipal election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Brampton\u2019s municipal election is getting closer, and voters have some important homework to do before they head to the polls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The City is reminding residents to check that they are on the voters\u2019 list and find out where they can cast their ballot ahead of the Monday, Oct. 26 election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">More than 410,000 eligible Brampton voters are expected to have the opportunity to vote for mayor, city councillors, regional councillors and school board trustees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">But before election day arrives, there are a couple of things voters should check.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">To vote in the Brampton municipal election, you must be a Canadian citizen and be at least 18 years old on election day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You must also live in Brampton, or be the owner or tenant of property in the city, or the spouse of someone who owns or rents property in Brampton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Residents can check their status, update their information or register to be added to the list through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brampton.ca\/EN\/City-Hall\/Election\/Voters\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">city\u2019s election website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Online registration and updates will be available until 5 p.m. on Oct. 17.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">If your name is not on the list, you will still have an opportunity to be added. You can visit the City Clerk\u2019s Office or complete an application at an advance voting location or on election day.<\/p>\n<p>Last 30 Days: 36,931 Votes<\/p>\n<p>All Time: 1,499,305 Votes<\/p>\n<p>    1633 VOTES<br \/>\n    Do you support bike lanes on major roads in the GTA?    <\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You will need identification showing your name and Brampton address.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Once you know you are on the voters\u2019 list, the next step is figuring out where to vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The city has an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brampton.ca\/EN\/City-Hall\/Election\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">online voting-location tool<\/a> that allows residents to find locations for both advance voting and election day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">That is important because the voting rules differ depending on when you vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">During advance voting, residents can vote at any advance voting location in Brampton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Advance voting will take place on Oct. 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17. Weekday voting hours are noon to 8 p.m., while weekend voting runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">On election day, Oct. 26, voters can cast their ballot at any voting location within their ward between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">An accessible voting unit will also be available at one location in each ward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Voter notices are expected to be mailed during the week of Sept. 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The City recommends bringing the notice along with identification showing your name and Brampton address when you vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">But losing your notice \u2014 or not receiving one \u2014 does not mean you cannot vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Eligible voters can still cast a ballot by bringing an acceptable piece of identification.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">There are other options for eligible voters who cannot vote in person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Those who are unable to vote during advance voting or on election day can appoint another eligible Brampton voter to cast a ballot on their behalf through proxy voting.
