<\/p>\nA Mississauga tow truck driver charged in a collision involving a pedestrian late last year in the city\u2019s east end now faces a more serious charge after the man who was struck died in hospital, police say.<\/p>\n
Peel Regional Police Major Collision Bureau investigators looking into the Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025 incident said the 45-year-old man who was hit by the tow truck succumbed to his injuries in hospital some seven months later, on July 29.<\/p>\n
The man was struck as he crossed Rathburn Road East near Dixie Road in the city\u2019s east end shortly before 4 p.m., according to police.<\/p>\n
Investigators said at the time the man was rushed to a local trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
Following the man\u2019s death this summer, investigators upgraded the charge against the tow truck driver.<\/p>\n
Abner Zuniga, 49, of Mississauga, was charged back in March with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm in relation to the December 2025 collision.<\/p>\n
That charge has now been upgraded to dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, police said in a news release issued on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Peel Regional Police Major Collision Bureau investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 3710.<\/p>\n
The busy Mississauga intersection was closed for a significant amount of time last Dec. 16 as police investigated the collision.<\/p>\n
