Giving cops a fake name during a traffic stop has led to charges for a Brampton man who was already under a driving ban, police say.<\/p>\n
Officers pulled over the vehicle shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday near Gordon Street and Wellington Street in Guelph, the Guelph Police Service says.<\/p>\n
The vehicle was seen driving with its rear lights not properly illuminated, and police say the driver was unable to provide his licence.<\/p>\n
An investigation revealed the driver had given officers a fake name, and police identified the driver as a 25-year-old from Brampton who was already under \u201cseveral driving prohibitions and a probation order.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police say the driver from Brampton was arrested and charged with four counts of driving while prohibited, breaching a probation order and several other offences under Highway Traffic Act, police say.<\/p>\n
Driving prohibitions can result from Criminal Code convictions, and a conviction of violation of the order will lead to a suspension of one year for a first offence or two years for a subsequent offence. If you are caught driving while your licence is suspended for a Criminal Code offence, the vehicle you are driving will be impounded for a minimum of 45 days.<\/p>\n
The name of the accused has not been disclosed, and police say the suspect was held for a bail hearing. The accused has been released and is scheduled to make a court appearance on Sept. 25 to answer to the charges.<\/p>\n
