<\/p>\nRevised plans to enlarge and completely transform a park in Mississauga\u2019s west end will again be discussed when city councillors return to the table next week.<\/p>\n
Bert Fleming Park, not long ago fully surrounded by a traffic circle on The Credit Woodlands north of Dundas Street West and a couple blocks east of Mississauga Road, is being redesigned to offer more amenities to residents and better connect them to the surrounding neighbourhood.<\/p>\n
Being completed through The Credit Woodlands Integrated Road Project, the park is also being enlarged by a half-acre, City of Mississauga staff said, adding new pedestrian crossings and sidewalks are also in the works.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe city is planning to add new facilities, amenities and features to upgrade Bert Fleming Park into a neighbourhood hub where residents can gather, play and connect with nature,\u201d city officials said in an online description of the major project. \u201cThese enhancements help promote community well-being, strengthen neighbourhood connections and provide accessible opportunities for residents of all ages.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, area residents attended a community open house and completed a survey as the city gathered feedback on a conceptual park design.<\/p>\n

City officials said they wanted to \u201cunderstand what features and activities residents would like to see at Bert Fleming Park.\u201d<\/p>\n
Feedback received prompted staff to revise the park plan to \u201cfocus on the facilities, amenities and features that the residents highly supported.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe revised concept plan will balance different community interests by prioritizing passive experiences such as natural areas, park trails and open lawn areas, active experiences such as the children\u2019s play area and community gathering spaces including seating.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new plan will soon be presented to the community, the city said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, city councillors will consider a staff report next Wednesday at general committee that seeks to move the park redesign forward.<\/p>\n
Specifically, the report addresses \u201clegislative requirements\u201d related to the city\u2019s closing off of the previously open section of Credit Heights Drive, staff said, adding that land will be incorporated into the reimagined park.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe report also outlines the land status changes needed to build a sidewalk around the park,\u201d city staff said in their online project description.<\/p>\n
