Powerful rain and wind storms that swept across the Greater Toronto Area and much of southern Ontario on Wednesday flooded\u00a0some Mississauga roads and toppled trees in pockets of the city.<\/p>\n
Beyond that, \u201cno significant impacts were reported in Mississauga following yesterday evening\u2019s severe thunderstorms,\u201d City of Mississauga spokesperson Irene McCutcheon told INsauga.com on Thursday. \u201cA limited number of service requests were received related to localized roadway flooding and downed trees. However, these issues were addressed in the evening and overnight, with any remaining cleanup activities continuing today.\u201d<\/p>\n
City staff are also out on Thursday \u201cassessing parks and trails to identify and address any additional storm-related impacts,\u201d McCutcheon added.<\/p>\n
Peel Regional Police said dangerous conditions due to the heavy rain and strong winds were reported on Southdown Road and Bromsgrove Road in southwest Mississauga during the storms, which ripped across southern Ontario and the GTA Wednesday afternoon into the evening hours.<\/p>\n

A flooded Bromsgrove Road was closed for a period of time between Southdown Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard, but has since reopened, police said.<\/p>\n
Credit Valley Conservation issued local flood warnings and watches early Wednesday evening as multiple storms bringing heavy rainfall, unusually strong and damaging winds and in some cases hail<\/a> moved across the region.<\/p>\n Those warnings and watches were downgraded early Thursday morning<\/a> as CVC said no additional rain is expected in the immediate future.<\/p>\n Numerous communities in the GTA and southern Ontario saw main roads and highways flooded on Wednesday afternoon and evening, with many people in multiple regions also waking up Thursday morning to see significant damage caused by the strong winds.<\/p>\n Last 30 Days: 38,384 Votes<\/p>\n All Time: 1,502,568 Votes<\/p>\n 1224 VOTES Officials in a number of towns, cities and regions are also trying to determine today if any tornadoes were confirmed<\/a> to have touched down on Wednesday.<\/p>\n Thousands of people across GTA without power<\/p>\n Meanwhile, thousands of people across the GTA and parts of Ontario\u2019s Golden Horseshoe remained without power early Thursday morning after the severe storms flooded streets and knocked down trees and utility lines.<\/p>\n Toronto Hydro reported early Thursday that roughly 8,300 homes and businesses were still in the dark, while the province\u2019s Crown-owned power supplier, Hydro One, said more than 47,000 customers remained offline.<\/p>\n Localized flooding forced the closure of some major roadways in Toronto, including parts of Yonge Street and the Don Valley Parkway, and suspended subway service in some areas during the Wednesday afternoon rush hour.<\/p>\n The intense weather brought torrential rain, large hail and the risk of a tornado to wide swaths of southern Ontario as skies darkened over downtown Toronto and hail pummelled neighbourhoods further north.<\/p>\n Video on social media showed large hail falling and downpours flooding vehicles and bus stations, sending people running for cover.<\/p>\n
