A flood warning issued Wednesday night for Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and elsewhere in the Credit River watershed has ended, but people are still urged to stay away from watercourses, conservation officials say.<\/p>\n
Credit Valley Conservation, the organization that protects natural areas and watercourses in Peel\u2019s three municipalities and several other communities, said flood warnings and watches issued last night have been downgraded on Thursday morning \u201cwith no significant rainfall predicted\u201d for the region.<\/p>\n
The conservation authority issued a watershed conditions\/water safety statement at around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning, noting \u201cyesterday\u2019s storm caused flooding and higher water levels. Streams and rivers remain dangerous. Keep kids and pets away from watercourses.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement and its urging that people stay away from all water bodies remains in effect through Friday, or until further notice.<\/p>\n
A water safety statement is issued when \u201chigh flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors (are in place) that could be dangerous for recreational users such as anglers, canoeists, hikers, children, pets, etc.,\u201d CVC continued in its statement, adding more flooding is not expected.<\/p>\n
Conservation officials said \u201cwhile no considerable rainfall is expected today, yesterday\u2019s storm event brought isolated intense rainfall that caused flooding in localized areas and higher flows and water levels throughout the watershed. As a result, water levels remain higher than normal and there may still be pooling on roads and in low-lying areas.\u201d<\/p>\n
CVC added it will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed.<\/p>\n
