Heavy rain from Wednesday\u2019s severe storm closed roads and highways in the Greater Toronto Area.<\/p>\n
The intense weather brought torrential rain, large hail and the risk of a tornado to wide swaths of southern Ontario as skies darkened over downtown Toronto and hail pummelled neighbourhoods further north.<\/p>\n
Localized flooding forced the closure of some major roadways, including parts of Yonge Street and the Don Valley Parkway, and suspended subway service during the Wednesday afternoon rush hour.<\/p>\n
On Thursday morning, city crews were clearing debris from the Don Valley Parkway and it was closed from Bayview Avenue and Bloor Street to the Gardiner, Toronto Police said.<\/p>\n
In an update just after 8 a.m., police said the southbound lanes of the Don Valley Parkway had reopened. The highway fully reopened at around 9 a.m.<\/p>\n
The Credit Valley Conservation issued a flood warning on Wednesday evening after the upper watershed received around 70 millimetres of rain.<\/p>\n
Flooding was reported in the First Street, Second Avenue\/Sherbourne Street, and Rotary Park areas in Orangeville.<\/p>\n
In Mississauga, Bromsgrove Road was flooded and vehicles were reportedly, Peel Regional Police said.<\/p>\n
Flooding was also reported on Southdown Road. Bromsgrove Road from Southdown Road to Winston Churchill Boulevard was closed, police said. There were no reported injuries on Wednesday evening, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Water levels have breached banks at Hindhead Park and Loyalist Creek at 5th Line in Mississauga, Credit Valley Conservation said.<\/p>\n
All watercourses experienced higher than normal water levels, the CVC said.<\/p>\n
The CVC downgraded the flood watch to a watershed conditions statement on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile no considerable rainfall is expected today, yesterday\u2019s storm event brought isolated intense rainfall that caused flooding in localized areas and higher flows and water levels throughout the watershed,\u201d the CVC said in the statement. \u201cAs a result, water levels remain higher than normal and there may still be pooling on roads and in low-lying areas, as well as local streams and rivers, remain dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges and dams. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.\u201d<\/p>\n
