Toronto police say two men are dead following a single-vehicle collision in North York overnight.<\/p>\n

In a post to social media platform X, the Toronto Police Service said officers were called to the area of Romfield Lane and Finch Avenue W., just west of Keele Street, shortly after 4:30 a.m.<\/p>\n

A vehicle hit a traffic light pole, causing the pole to be knocked down completely, Toronto police said. The car’s airbags were deployed.<\/p>\n

Speaking with reporters at the scene, Duty Insp. Peter Wallace said a 39-year-old man was driving a vehicle with one passenger, a 42-year-old man, in it. Both of the men were pronounced dead at the scene, he added.<\/p>\n

“This is a heartbreaking incident and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased,” Wallace said.<\/p>\n

The intersection is closed for the investigation and people are asked to avoid the area, Toronto police said in Saturday’s post.<\/p>\n

Wallace said the road closures will remain in effect for at least another 2 hours as investigators gather all the facts.<\/p>\n

“We ask for your patience as we continue our investigation,” he said.<\/p>\n

Whether or not speed was a factor will be studied as part of the investigation, Wallace added. <\/p>\n

“In general speaking terms, as we approach the end of summer, we’re appealing to motorists, drivers and pedestrians to be careful,” he said.<\/p>\n
