White Rock to host Parkinson SuperWalk<\/p>\n

On Sept. 12 the Parkinson Society of British Columbia will be hosting their largest fundraiser of the year called the Parkinson SuperWalk. <\/p>\n
White Rock\u2019s Memorial Park will be the starting point for this year\u2019s walking event with registration at 9 a.m. and the walk beginning at 10 a.m. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhether you\u2019re part of a team or walking on your own, everyone is welcome! Bring your strollers, walkers, running shoes, friends, family, we\u2019d love to have you join us,\u201d wrote volunteer coordinator Katelyn Holness on the event\u2019s Facebook page. <\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s come together, get moving and show our support for everyone affected by Parkinson\u2019s,\u201d the post continued. <\/p>\n
Holness shared in an interview prior to the event that this walk means something to her personally. She explained that she holds Parkinson\u2019s close to her heart because her dad was diagnosed in 2021. <\/p>\n
\u201cSince then, it has really taken a village of family, friends, and amazing professionals to support him and our family,\u201d said Holness.<\/p>\n
She shared that her family and friends have been participating in the SuperWalk for the past few years and last year she offered to take on the volunteer coordinator role for the 2026 walk. <\/p>\n
Holness shared that there are approximately 17,500 people in B.C. living with Parkinson\u2019s disease and the funds raised through this event will help the Parkinson Society of British Columbia to grow its programs, services, expand advocacy efforts, and increase its investment in innovative research. <\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the things that has struck me most about Parkinson\u2019s is how much of a silent and heavy disease it can be. You don\u2019t always see what someone living with Parkinson\u2019s is carrying, which is why events like the SuperWalk are so important,\u201d said Holness. \u201cIt brings people together, raises awareness, and reminds families that they are not alone.\u201d<\/p>\n
She explains that there are two distances event attendees can choose the walk this year. There is one shorter and one longer with both starting and ending at Memorial Park. The shorter route will extend just to the White Rock and the longer route will take participants to the East Beach bear statue. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnyone and everyone is welcome to participate,\u201d explained Holness.\u201cParticipants can simply follow the balloons to the check-in booth.\u201d <\/p>\n
She also says that not everyone has to walk or be a part of a team or even personally know someone with Parkinson\u2019s to join. <\/p>\n
