LOS ANGELES (AP) \u2014 \u201cThe Pitt\u201d<\/a> started raking in Emmys<\/a> Sunday at an early ceremony eight days before the main awards show and telecast, including a guest acting award for 73-year-old first-time nominee Ernest Harden Jr. <\/p>\n

HBO Max\u2019s day-in-the-life medical series \u201cThe Pitt\u201d \u2014 the year\u2019s top nominee with 25 and the reigning best drama winner for its first season \u2014 also won Sunday for its prosthetic makeup and its casting. <\/p>\n

Another top nominee, Apple TV\u2019s first-year horror comedy \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay,\u201d<\/a> brought in four trophies of its own, including wins for production design and sound. <\/p>\n

Harden, who won for playing Louie Cloverfield, the emergency room\u2019s constant presence and constantly struggling alcoholic on \u201cThe Pitt,\u201d wept when his name was called. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am just on cloud 25,\u201d he said backstage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. \u201cI\u2019m not saying it\u2019s a complete surprise because \u2018The Pitt\u2019 is such a powerful show to come from, but just to get it in your hands is unreal.\u201d <\/p>\n

Harden\u2019s first speaking role was in the 1975 Robert Redford-Faye Dunaway thriller \u201cThree Days of the Condor\u201d and he had a three-season role on the sitcom \u201cThe Jeffersons\u201d in the 1970s, but has acted for decades without awards recognition. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pitt\u201d dominated this year\u2019s drama acting nominations<\/a> for its second season. Harden\u2019s category included fellow \u201cPitt\u201d guest star Jeff Kober. Three women from the show were up for best guest actress in a drama, but all lost out to Shailene Woodley for her role on \u201cParadise.\u201d <\/p>\n

Woodley said backstage that she was a fan of the dystopian Hulu series during its first season, and loved getting to play a survivor who holes up for years alone in Elvis Presley\u2019s Graceland in Memphis to open its second season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole \u2018Paradise\u2019 journey from beginning to end is just a gift that continues to give,\u201d Woodley said.<\/p>\n

It was her first Emmy win. She was previously nominated for her role on \u201cBig Little Lies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpider Noir,\u201d which was canceled after one season last week by Amazon Prime Video, won four Emmys including visual effects and stunts. <\/p>\n

The Television Academy hands out well over 100 primetime Emmys, and most of them are being presented this weekend in a pair of ceremonies. They were previously known as the Creative Arts Emmys<\/a> but have now been rebranded as simply the first two nights of the 78th Emmy Awards.<\/p>\n

The two nights will be edited together to air Sept. 12 on FXX and stream on Hulu the following day. The primetime Sept. 14 ceremony, also at the Peacock Theater and hosted by Mariska Hargitay<\/a>, will air live on NBC and stream live on Peacock.<\/p>\n

Hargitay was among this weekend\u2019s winners, getting two Emmys for the documentary she directed about her mother, Jayne Mansfield, \u201cMy Mom Jayne,\u201d to go with the best actress in a drama Emmy she won in 2006 for \u201cLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny won his first career Emmy Award<\/a> for his Super Bowl halftime show<\/a>, which took seven trophies at the first of the weekend\u2019s ceremonies on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Two other Apple TV Emmy rookies also won multiple trophies along with \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay.\u201d \u201cPluribus,\u201d<\/a> the one-woman-against-the-hivemind drama from \u201cBreaking Bad\u201d creator Vince Gilligan that could challenge \u201cThe Pitt\u201d in the top categories, won for its editing, production design and sound mixing. \u201cMargo\u2019s Got Money Troubles\u201d also won three craft awards. <\/p>\n

Netflix\u2019s \u201cBeef\u201d was thriving in the limited series categories, with three wins including trophies for costumes and sound. <\/p>\n

Rob Reiner,<\/a> who was killed along with his wife Michele Singer Reiner<\/a> in December, could win a posthumous Emmy later Sunday. He was nominated for guest actor in a comedy for \u201cThe Bear,\u201d about 50 years after winning two Emmy Awards for his acting on \u201cAll in the Family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Five-time Emmy winner Michael J. Fox is also nominated in the same category for playing a patient on \u201cShrinking\u201d who has Parkinson\u2019s disease, which the actor was diagnosed with in the 1990s.<\/p>\n

The evening\u2019s star power will be increased by the academy moving five categories from the Sept. 14 telecast to Sunday.
