He said he has to \u201csurrender\u201d the weapon as he didn\u2019t have the proper documents to import it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going to take part in a clay pigeon shooting competition in Portugal,\u201d Ecclestone told the Press Association. \u201cI went to see the police and said, \u2018What can I do for you?\u2019 And they said, \u2018We would like some information on this gun you brought in\u2019.\u201d He added that he had taken his shotgun to Switzerland from England and didn\u2019t anticipate any problems since airport officials know him \u201cvery well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But on arrival to Portugal, Ecclestone was questioned by police for an hour and was asked to surrender his gun.<\/p>\n<p>Happened before<\/p>\n<p data-async=\"\">This <a data-evt-val=\"{\" control_fields=\"\" link=\"\" the=\"\" second=\"\" time=\"\" data-evt=\"click\" data-evt-typ=\"click\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/formula1\/61596393\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">marks the second time<\/a> Ecclestone has run into trouble importing firearms into a country. In 2022, he was arrested in Brazil for carrying a gun onto a private plane to Switzerland. Authorities found an undocumented Seecamp .32 gun in his luggage during an x-ray screening. Ecclestone did say that it was his gun, but said he didn\u2019t know it had been in his luggage at the time.<\/p>\n<p>He was ordered to pay 6,000 Brazilian reals (1,600 Canadian) to local authorities.
