The Spanish overall leader from Movistar admitted after the finish of the flat stage in Spain that his legs weren\u2019t feeling their best on the day. However, his rivals didn\u2019t get a chance to take advantage of it.&#8221;For me, it was great that today&#8217;s stage was fairly flat,&#8221; said Mas in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavuelta.es\/en\/news\/2026\/stage-16\/enric-mas-i-hope-the-legs-will-be-better-tomorrow\/66838\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">flash interview<\/a> shortly after the finish as the overall leader. &#8220;It was great for the team, too, because we still needed to rest a bit from last week. We\u2019ll have time for that today and tomorrow, even though these aren\u2019t exactly easy days. They\u2019re certainly different, though.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When asked how his legs felt during the first stage after the second rest day, Mas replied honestly: \u201cMy legs were a little stiff after yesterday. We really had to take it very, very easy, so that\u2019s only to be expected. The same goes for Iv\u00e1n Romeo and Pablo Castrillo, who, riding for Movistar as Mas\u2019s climbing domestiques, took it even easier that day and finished more than 11 minutes behind the winner. \u201cAll in all, we did well; Enric had a pretty quiet day in the peloton,\u201d Rom\u00e9o told <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Eurosport_ES\/status\/2097348919411806340\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Eurosport<\/a>.Movistar did have to be careful for a bit in the first half of the stage, when UAE Emirates-XRG set a fast pace for the breakaway, forcing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idlprocycling.com\/cycling\/vuelta-a-espana-2026-standings-these-are-the-standings-going-into-the-final-week\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">general classification contenders<\/a> to keep up for a while. \u201cWe knew it was going to be a tough day, but Enric was incredibly strong.
