Sir Richard Branson\u2019s wife Lady Joan Templeman\u2019s death could have been \u201cprevented\u201d if she was given medication to treat her blood clot.<\/p>\n

Following an investigation into her death, Professor Fiona Wilcox, senior coroner from Inner West London Coroner\u2019s Court, claimed that Templeman didn\u2019t receive blood thinner medications that prevent harmful blood clots, according to The Independent.<\/a><\/p>\n

Wilcox alleged that if Templeman, who passed away at age 80<\/a> in November 2025, got the medications from Lister Hospital in London, she wouldn\u2019t have died from a pulmonary embolism, which is a sudden blockage in a lung artery caused by a blood clot <\/a>in deep veins in the legs,<\/p>\n

\u201cI do find her death would have likely been prevented and the lack of anticoagulation did cause or contribute to her death probably,\u201d Wilcox stated.<\/p>\n

Page Six has reached out to the Inner West London Coroner\u2019s Court for comment.<\/p>\n

Templeman \u2014 who was married to the Virgin Records founder\u00a0for 36 years \u2014 died at Lister Hospital on Nov. 24, 2025, two weeks after she suffered a fall at the family\u2019s Necker Island home.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Before the investigation, Templeman and Richard\u2019s daughter, Holly, sent an email to the court where she expressed concern over how her mom was treated in the hospital, according to the Daily Mail. <\/a><\/p>\n

Holly claimed Templeman was \u201caccustomed to\u201d taking anti-blood clot injections and doubted that her mom refused to take the medication at the hospital before her death.<\/p>\n

\u201cHad I been aware she was not receiving Enoxaparin injections I would have been very concerned given her recent long haul\u00a0travel and medical history,\u201d Holly said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Basir Kunduzi, who was on duty at\u00a0Lister Hospital, reportedly told the coroner that he thought Templeman should\u2019ve received the medication, but he didn\u2019t give her it because \u201cthere was a risk of bleeding\u201d after her fall. <\/p>\n

Dr. Kunduzi claimed he instead gave Templeman a CT scan to make sure there was no bleeding and then wrote on her records that she wasn\u2019t given the blood clot meds, but assumed another doctor would\u2019ve reviewed his decision.<\/p>\n

He expressed regret for his medical decision, per the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n

Dr. Nevil Pavithran, who took\u00a0over Templeman\u2019s care, reportedly said during the investigation that Templeman should\u2019ve received the meds within 12 hours of her being admitted to the hospital.<\/p>\n

Dr. Pavithran also claimed \u201cthere was no bleeding risk\u201d from Templeman taking the meds. <\/p>\n

Dr. Bovill, who also treated Templeman at the hospital, admitted he screwed up by not forcing her to get the injections. <\/p>\n

\u201cI thought long and hard about this and reflected on it\u2026 I should have perhaps been much more forceful,\u201d Dr. Bovill said. \u201cIt\u2019s to my great regret I did not.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if he ever revisited his decision to not prescribe the drugs, Dr. Bovill replied, \u201cAgain, with great regret, I did not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richard, 76, tragically announced his wife\u2019s death <\/a>on Instagram in November, but didn\u2019t give any further details at the time.<\/p>\n

In his tribute, the billionaire said he was \u201cheartbroken\u201d over the tragedy.<\/p>\n
