EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. \u2014 Dallas Cowboys running back Malik Davis will not play in\u00a0the season opener Sunday night\u00a0at the New York Giants after injuring a hip in practice on Friday.<\/p>\n
Davis was ruled out as part of the teams\u2019 injury report, which also included Giants No. 1 receiver Malik Nabers being listed as questionable. Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones in a radio interview called Davis’ injury pretty serious, suggesting the 27-year-old could miss more than just one game.<\/p>\n
With Javonte Williams set to start, Davis’ absence could shift Emari Demercado into a backup role. Dallas also has Israel Abanikanda on its practice squad.<\/p>\n
Nabers is nearly a year removed from\u00a0tearing the ACL\u00a0in his right knee and\u00a0has been progressing\u00a0from individual through\u00a0team drills\u00a0and contact practices over the past month. Nabers has been a full participant in practice this week, according to the Giants, though he said the coaching staff is leaving it up to him to decide whether he plays.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the end of the day, it\u2019s my career,\u201d Nabers said Thursday. \u201cIt\u2019s my body. I know when I\u2019m able to play, and I know when I\u2019m able to do what I want to do.
