There is a common sentiment in sports media<\/a> today that everyone doesn\u2019t need to have a podcast. Unfortunately, it seems like everyone does these days, and a recent episode of The Colin Cowherd Podcast was a reminder of why some people should be kept from the mic. <\/p>\n

Longtime radio personality Colin Cowherd interviewed Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham<\/a> for the latest episode of his show, when an awkward exchange led to the 62-year-old Cowherd crowning Cunningham the \u201csex symbol\u201d of the WNBA<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During a conversation about her recent podcast shakeup<\/a>, which included Cunningham denying claims that she split with her former co-host over a disagreement about transgender athletes<\/a> in sports, Cowherd threw a wild curveball. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou are kind of viewed a little bit as the league\u2019s\u2026ummm,\u201d Cowherd said, before Cunninham interupted and urged the host to finish his thought. \u201cSex symbol,\u201d he continued. \u201cIs that fair? \u201cYou\u2019re tough. You\u2019ll fight anybody. You\u2019ll taunt anybody. But you\u2019ll make sure coming into the arena, \u2018I look good, and I want you to know I look good.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Sophie Cunningham Responds To Colin Cowherd\u2019s \u2018Sex Symbol\u2019 Label<\/p>\n

While some listerners wished Cowherd wouldn\u2019t have gone that direction, Cunningham didn\u2019t seem to mind. Instead, she went along with the conversation and discussed the juxtaposition of being girly but still having the ability to \u201ckick someone\u2019s ass.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cFor some reason, our society, if you play basketball, you can\u2019t dress that way, or you can\u2019t be girly. No one\u2019s ever said it, but it\u2019s like, they kind of feel that you can\u2019t be both. Screw all that. Yes, you can. You can be girly, and you can go out and kick someone\u2019s ass.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regardless of what you think about Cunningham\u2019s politics, you can\u2019t deny that she has been doing a great job at promoting herself. Cunningham has found a loyal fanbase, and Cowherd is obviously among those who are buying what she\u2019s selling. <\/p>\n

It may not be for everyone, but it\u2019s clearly working. <\/p>\n

This season, Cunningham is averaging just 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists for the 26-14 Fever, who return to the court in one week on Friday, September 18, following the league\u2019s FIBA Women\u2019s World Cup break.<\/p>\n
