{"id":892722,"date":"2026-09-12T07:08:18","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T07:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/892722\/"},"modified":"2026-09-12T07:08:18","modified_gmt":"2026-09-12T07:08:18","slug":"blue-jays-call-up-rudy-martin-jr-after-12-years-in-minors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/892722\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue Jays call up Rudy Martin Jr. after 12 years in minors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a very long wait, Rudy Martin Jr. is finally getting a taste of major-league action.<\/p>\n<p>The <a data-team=\"toronto-blue-jays\" data-league=\"mlb\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/toronto-blue-jays\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> are recalling the 30-year-old from triple-A Buffalo, clearing the way for Martin to make his MLB debut after 12 years in the minor leagues, the team announced Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays designated Jesus Sanchez for assignment. <\/p>\n<p>Martin Jr. ultimately made his debut on Friday night against the Baltimore Orioles, pinch-running for George Springer in the ninth inning. <\/p>\n<p>The outfielder joined the Blue Jays organization in July, when he was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Jr. has a .253\/.351\/.379 slash line with three home runs and 11 RBIs across 95 plate appearances. He has also added 12 stolen bases in 27 games.<\/p>\n<p>Martin is known for his speed, having stolen 45 bases on the season and 239 in his minor-league career.<\/p>\n<p>Martin was designated for assignment by the Orioles on July 20, just days after the team acquired him from the Kansas City Royals.<\/p>\n<p>He was a 25th-round draft pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"After a very long wait, Rudy Martin Jr. is finally getting a taste of major-league action.
