Brampton is honouring local soccer star Cycle Larin after contributing to a record-breaking performance at this year\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n
Larin gained the nickname \u201cThe Brampton Bagsman\u201d for his teammates while playing at English club Southampton, and was one of several members of Canada\u2019s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad. He scored the tying goal in Canada\u2019s 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina in Toronto during the tournament, and also opened the scoring in Canada\u2019s record-breaking 6-0 win over Qatar.<\/p>\n
The city is already planning to name a soccer field after Larin, and now says it will be presenting the Brampton forward with a Key to the City.<\/p>\n
Brampton will be awarding the key to Larin later this month \u201cin recognition of his international career and achievements as one of Canada\u2019s leading all-time scorers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Members of the public are invited to the event, but registration is required as space is limited.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first 250 Brampton residents ages 4 to 12 will receive a special gift at the event,\u201d the city says.<\/p>\n
The event is scheduled for Sept. 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brampton City Hall.<\/p>\n
Brampton natives make up a bulk of Canada\u2019s World Cup Team, including Larin, Tajon Buchanan, Jonathan Osorio, Promise David and Jayden Nelson, was named to Canada\u2019s roster to replace injured midfielder Marcelo Flores.<\/p>\n
