\u201cDiablo V\u201d is in development at Xbox\u2019s Blizzard Entertainment<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe new game is targeting a Spring 2029 release date, Blizzard announced Saturday during the opening ceremony for fan festival BlizzCon 2026 at the Anaheim Convention Center.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDiablo V\u201d will be set a century after the events of \u201cDiablo IV\u201d (which released in 2023) and, in a first for the video game franchise, take place in a world where Sanctuary has fallen.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to the description for \u201cDiablo V,\u201d \u201cFor the first time, players will enter a Sanctuary where Diablo has triumphed and its heroes have been defeated. At the heart of Diablo V lies a defining question: what must you become when the world has already fallen?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first \u201cDiablo\u201d was released in 1996, marking 2026 as the 30th anniversary for the franchise. Since then, Blizzard says the \u201cDiablo\u201d games \u2014 which now consists of four mainline entries, the most recent being the release of \u201cDiablo IV\u201d in 2023 \u2014 have seen more than 130 million players worldwide to date.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDiablo V\u201d was not the franchise\u2019s only big news revealed during BlizzCon Saturday. Blizzard president Johanna Faries opened the show by announcing a \u201cDiablo\u201d animated TV series<\/a> is currently in development at Netflix. <\/p>\n

\n\tPer Blizzard\u2019s statement on the TV project, \u201cAfter decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we\u2019re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens. A new animated series set in the world of \u2018Diablo\u2019 is in development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFellow Blizzard brands had plenty to share during BlizzCon 2026\u2019s opening ceremony as well, including news that a new \u201cStarCraft\u201d open-world shooter game<\/a> is in active development and eyeing a 2030 release.<\/p>\n
