\u201cFor me, I always start with: \u2018What\u2019s your story?\u2019\u201d said Halverson, who now works for the faith-based organization.<\/p>\n
He struggled with addiction for much of his life before entering the Adult & Teen Challenge in-residence program where he met others going through the same difficulties. Now he wants to give back.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes just being an ear. Taking that time to meet with someone, and that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019m doing today. Stepping not just out in our parking lot, but out into the street, saying: \u2018Hey do you have a minute? What\u2019s your story?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
One of those people was Michael \u2018Chad\u2019 Wagner, who attended the event and is considering getting help with his fentanyl addiction. He said many people don\u2019t grasp how difficult it can be to overcome.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt takes a lot of death, a lot of hurt and a lot of pain, to understand,\u201d Wagner said, adding he was optimistic learning about the organization Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople need to know there is actually hope and it\u2019s not just another bunk program,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Wagner said Winnipeg needs more services to help people get sober. He is in need of wraparound supports, from access to housing to post-program life.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just something you can walk away from. You\u2019re physically sick,\u201d Wagner said.<\/p>\n Adult & Teen Challenge of Central Canada offers three live-in, holistic rehabilitation programs in Manitoba with locations for men in Winnipeg and Steinbach and a women\u2019s location in Brandon. It also has a facility for men in Denare Beach, Sask., and another for women in Thunder Bay, Ont.<\/p>\n The organization is also in the middle of another major project at 83 Kate St., where it is constructing a $25-million, 100-bed \u201clife transformation centre\u201d that will house detox beds, long-term beds and apartment suites. Construction is expected to be complete within 18 months.<\/p>\n Adult & Teen Challenge logged 6,500 calls for service and helped 156 people out of of homelessness in 2025 between Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario offices.<\/p>\n Halverson said the new Winnipeg office, located in the \u201cheart of the city,\u201d is essential in order to assess people for treatment.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is hope,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \n\t\tWinnipeg Free Press | Newsletter\n\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t Daniel Emond, the organization\u2019s president and CEO, was also part of Saturday\u2019s ribbon cutting. Emond, who struggled with drug addiction in decades past, wants the facility to be the first point of contact for people in need.<\/p>\n
