Filmmaker Zack Snyder is out promoting \u201cThe Last Photograph,\u201d his new low-budget and back-to-basics indie drama that was shot in Colombia. There\u2019s no slow motion or green screen, and Snyder did multiple duties, not just as director but as cinematographer as well.<\/p>\n

In a new interview about the film at THR<\/a>, he\u2019s gone into some of his past work, including his time at DC and a look at why his Snyder-verse take on DC heroes didn\u2019t quite work as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.<\/p>\n

According to Snyder, Marvel figured out how to bend its characters into a very marketable way. That\u2019s not the approach he wanted to take. Rather, he wanted to get at an inner truth at the core of these characters:<\/p>\n

\u201c[Marvel is] like an amusement park ride, right? The ups, the drops, the kind of cruising part, and then another drop. At the end, you\u2019re like, \u2018Wow, that was crazy, that was awesome.\u2019 I had no interest in that. And you know, maybe that was a mistake. But I don\u2019t think that way. I can\u2019t do that. I\u2019d rather just kind of talk about the mythology of them. And maybe that\u2019s not as fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about Gunn\u2019s \u201cSuperman,\u201d he revealed he hasn\u2019t seen it yet: \u201cI just haven\u2019t gotten around to it yet,\u201d and quickly added he\u2019s a supporter of Gunn\u2019s and wants the DC division to do well.<\/p>\n

As for what\u2019s next, the trade confirms he\u2019s still set to remake John Carpenter\u2019s classic \u201cEscape from New York\u201d which, like the original, will be set in 1997. He says: \u201cIt is genre-defining and genre-defying at the same time because no one\u2019s really been able to duplicate the kind of audacity that the movie has.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Warner Bros.
