97-79<\/a>\u00a0victory over France. Stewart has been a part of the last four and now she\u2019s tied with Sue Bird for the most in the tournament\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\u201cShe is USA Basketball. When you think of the last 15 years, it\u2019s Stewie,\u201d U.S. coach Kara Lawson said. \u201cWe\u2019re just really lucky to be a part of her era.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stewart won her second MVP award in the World Cup and averaged 12.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 55.3% from the floor during this tournament. She had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the victory over France.<\/p>\n
\u201cI pride myself on being consistently great,\u201d Stewart said. \u201cThat\u2019s showing up when it\u2019s the big moments, the small moments and all the moments in between. It\u2019s an unrealistic confidence I have in myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
It isn\u2019t just in the World Cup that Stewart excels. She has already won three Olympic gold medals, three WNBA titles and four NCAA championships \u2014 where she won the Most Outstanding Player each year.<\/p>\n
She\u2019s earned the respect of her all her teammates.<\/p>\n
\u201cStewie\u2019s been a tremendous leader through this whole process for us,\u201d said Caitlin Clark, who was playing in her first World Cup. \u201cStewie\u2019s a winner. That\u2019s all she is. All she ever does is win. She\u2019s been in so many of these moments, and when you have somebody like that on your team, it\u2019s just a really comforting thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Clark said how Stewart came into the weight room after the close three-point win over Italy and comforted some of the newcomers on the team, who were a little surprised by how tight that game had been.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just want you guys to know this is how it is. Don\u2019t be intimidated by that. This is just how this goes. The games are going to be close. That doesn\u2019t mean like you should feel defeated in any way,\u201d Clark recalled. \u201cI thought that was just a really good thing we needed to hear. Don\u2019t let that bother you. These games are going to be hard.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stewart learned from some of the best leaders in Bird and Diana Taurasi. She\u2019s just continued that tradition of success.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think sometimes you get used to seeing excellence all the time and you get complacent,\u201d said Chelsea Gray. \u201cYou see the way she competes, the way she finishes the ball, the way she brings the team together.
