{"id":895967,"date":"2026-09-14T23:24:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T23:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/895967\/"},"modified":"2026-09-14T23:24:11","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T23:24:11","slug":"four-teens-killed-at-manitoba-intersection-prompts-new-safety-measures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/895967\/","title":{"rendered":"Four teens killed at\u00a0Manitoba\u00a0intersection prompts new safety measures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Manitoba\u00a0government is adding warning lights and fixing up the rumble strips at a remote intersection where four teens recently died in a crash.<\/p>\n<p>The province says red flashing lights are being installed on stop signs at Provincial Road 229 and Highway 8 near the town of Winnipeg Beach, north of Winnipeg.<\/p>\n<p>The lights are expected to be operational by week\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<p>A government spokesperson says the province is also refreshing rumble strips, which are grooved patterns cut into the road that make a loud vibrating sound when drivers veer off centre.<\/p>\n<p>Also, new paint lines were applied last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just over a week ago, on Sept. 6, four teens were in a vehicle heading west on Provincial Road 229 when it was hit by a van while crossing Highway 8.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the victims were 18-year-olds from\u00a0Manitoba. The fourth was a 17-year-old from Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>The teens died at the scene. The four in the van were transported to hospital with minor injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Manitoba\u00a0RCMP continue to investigate. A significant thunderstorm was passing through the area at the time, but police could not say whether that was a contributing factor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The crash renewed calls for safety changes at the spot.
