local swimmers with one less place to dive into during the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/vancouver-weather-showers-warming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">last full week of summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Britannia Community Services Centre posted online that its pool underwent an \u201cEmergency Maintenance Closure\u201d on Saturday, Sept. 12 due to an \u201cunexpected failure,\u201d and will remain shut down until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>According to the City of Vancouver, Britannia\u00a0Pool\u00a0needed to close on Friday evening following the unexpected sloughing of sections of the\u00a0pool\u00a0basin tiles.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"britannia pool\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2232309\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/britannia-pool-2-1024x575.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2232309\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Britannia Community Services Centre<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPark Board staff have since drained the pool and completed the necessary repairs to the affected basin tiles,\u201d the City of Vancouver told Daily Hive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pool will now be refilled, treated, and heated to ensure water quality and operating conditions meet Vancouver Coastal Health requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The City also added that, barring any unforeseen issues during the refilling and commissioning process, staff are aiming for the pool to reopen later this week.<\/p>\n<p>Additional maintenance work on <a href=\"https:\/\/britanniacentre.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Britannia Pool<\/a>, one of the busiest pools in Vancouver, is slated to start in mid-January 2027, which will close the site temporarily.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"vancouver Pool\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" Centre<\/p>\n<p>According to the City of Vancouver, they will be upgrading critical mechanical, electrical, plumbing, pool, and building systems that are necessary for the facility to remain operational.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the pool closure was intended to start in November of this year, but the City of Vancouver and Park Board delayed the work to \u201chelp ensure the local clubs and their swimmers can continue to access the facility throughout their season,\u201d said the City of Vancouver in an email to Daily Hive Urbanized.<\/p>\n<p>The scope and schedule of the maintenance work \u201care still being finalized and remain subject to the necessary approvals,\u201d the City added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project is an important investment in the long-term operation of the pool, and postponing the work will help ensure the local clubs and their swimmers can continue to access the facility throughout their season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Staff are currently reviewing capacity at all of the City\u2019s recreation centres to find opportunities to \u201creallocate lane space and program time\u201d for current Britannia pool users.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A
