{"id":896781,"date":"2026-09-15T15:22:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T15:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/896781\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T15:22:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T15:22:09","slug":"investment-scam-probe-leads-to-3-more-arrests-in-mississauga-elsewhere-in-ontario","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/896781\/","title":{"rendered":"Investment scam probe leads to 3 more arrests in Mississauga, elsewhere in Ontario"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three additional arrests have been made, including one in Mississauga, as provincial police continue to investigate a 2025 investment scam in which the victim was cheated out of $500,000.<\/p>\n<p>The latest pair of arrests came on Sept. 4 and Sept. 10 after Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police officers executed search warrants in Vaughan and London, respectively, police said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>On April 16, police made a second arrest in the case, taking one person into custody after executing a search warrant at a Mississauga address.<\/p>\n<p>On March 27, police descended on a Brampton home and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/500000-investment-scam-leads-to-the-arrest-of-a-brampton-man\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">subsequently arrested one person<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The four arrests have been made in connection with a Wellington County OPP fraud investigation that began in October 2025 when officers looked into a reported investment scam involving a victim in Puslinch Township, south of Guelph.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the victim is believed to have lost around $500,000.<\/p>\n<p>After further investigation, Ontario Provincial Police said they \u201cdiscovered evidence of money laundering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In executing the March 27 search warrant in Brampton, police seized a large stash of Canadian cash, high-end clothing and purses, several electronic devices and personal documents, OPP said in a news release on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>During their latest search and arrest, on Sept. 10 in London, officers seized \u201coffence-related property\u201d including several electronic devices and various documents with an estimated value of $8,000, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Basit Balogun, 29, of Brampton, is charged with:<\/p>\n<p>Laundering proceeds of crime.<br \/>\nPossession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.<br \/>\nFraud over $5,000.<\/p>\n<p>Olufunmi Ogunbayo, 34, of London, who was arrested in Mississauga, is charged with:<\/p>\n<p>Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.<br \/>\nLaundering proceeds of crime.<\/p>\n<p>The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 23.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel Owoade, 28, of Vaughan, is charged with:<\/p>\n<p>Fraud over $5,000.<br \/>\nPossession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.<br \/>\nLaundering proceeds of crime.<\/p>\n<p>The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 27.<\/p>\n<p>Babatunde Ogunbayo, 31, of London, is charged with:<\/p>\n<p>Laundering proceeds of crime.<br \/>\nPossession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.<\/p>\n<p>The accused was held in police custody and made a first court appearance on Sept. 11.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is ongoing, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information in relation to this incident is urged to call Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.<\/p>\n<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/editorial-guidelines\" class=\"editorial-guidelines-link d-block mb-4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n            INsauga&#8217;s Editorial Standards and Policies        <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last 30 Days: 48,092 Votes<\/p>\n<p>All Time: 1,517,895 Votes<\/p>\n<p>    159 VOTES<br \/>\n    Do you think TIFF tickets are reasonably priced?
