Winnipeg basketball player and Canadian Senior Women\u2019s National Team member Emily Potter has signed with the\u00a0Aisin Wings in Japan, adding the Women\u2019s Japan Basketball League to an international professional career that has included stops across Europe, Australia, Mexico, Lebanon, Taiwan and China.<\/p>\n

Potter, a 6-foot-5 (1.96 m) centre, joins Aisin following a 2025\u201326 season that included multiple international competitions. She averaged 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game over four EuroCup Women appearances with ACS Sepsi-SIC, and earlier averaged 13.3 points and 8.0 rebounds over three games for Cathay Life at the 2025 FIBA Women\u2019s Basketball League Asia. The Players Pick announcement also reported averages of 10.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during her time with Hebei in China\u2019s WCBA. \u00a0Aisin Wings competes in Japan\u2019s WJBL.<\/p>\n

Potter\u2019s basketball roots are in Winnipeg. She began playing at Samuel Burland School before attending Glenlawn Collegiate, where she won a provincial championship, was named Manitoba\u2019s AAAA Girls Player of the Year in 2013, and represented Manitoba through the Provincial Team Program and Canada Basketball\u2019s Centre for Performance program.<\/p>\n

She later completed four NCAA Division I seasons at the University of Utah. Potter became the first player in Utah women\u2019s basketball history to record more than 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds and 200 blocked shots in a career. In 2018, she signed a free-agent contract with the WNBA\u2019s Seattle Storm, as the first WNBA contract signed by a player from Manitoba.<\/p>\n

Potter has represented Canada at both the youth and senior national-team levels, including a bronze medal at the 2012 FIBA U17 Women\u2019s World Championship, a William Jones Cup championship in 2014, a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA Women\u2019s AmeriCup, and participation with Canada at the 2025 FIBA Women\u2019s AmeriCup.<\/p>\n

Her professional r\u00e9sum\u00e9 includes league and cup championships in Greece, Serbia, Mexico and Lebanon, along with a WNBL finals appearance in Australia. During her 2024 season with Red Star in Serbia, she was part of the league and cup championship team and received multiple individual honours, including Finals MVP, Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Centre of the Year recognition.<\/p>\n

Potter has also remained connected to the Manitoba basketball community. The outdoor court behind Glenlawn Collegiate carries her name, and she has hosted the free \u201cMad Love for Female Hoopers\u201d community event for young female players in Winnipeg.<\/p>\n
