{"id":896975,"date":"2026-09-15T19:24:47","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T19:24:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/896975\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T19:24:47","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T19:24:47","slug":"local-444-president-seeks-commitment-on-windsor-assemblys-third-shift-as-stellantis-talks-remain-stalled-am-800-cklw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/896975\/","title":{"rendered":"Local 444 president seeks commitment on Windsor Assembly\u2019s third shift as Stellantis talks remain stalled \u2013 AM 800 CKLW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Contract talks between Unifor and Stellantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.am800cklw.com\/news\/unifor-pushes-back-on-brampton-plant-sale-seeks-answers-on-windsor\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.am800cklw.com\/news\/unifor-pushes-back-on-brampton-plant-sale-seeks-answers-on-windsor\/\">remain at an impasse<\/a>, with the union citing uncertainty around the future of the Brampton Assembly Plant, Windsor Assembly Plant and Etobicoke Casting Plant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The two sides had set a Sept. 11 target date to reach a tentative agreement before the current collective agreement expires Sept. 20.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Unifor Local 444 President and Master Bargaining Committee member James Stewart says the union entered negotiations with three key priorities: matching the economic pattern agreement reached with Ford, securing investments at Stellantis facilities and finding an acceptable resolution for workers at Brampton Assembly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Stewart says those goals remain unmet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe don\u2019t have any clear, concise information on how they plan to protect the third shift in the Windsor Assembly Plant, and how [Etobicoke Casting Plant] looks over the coming years. So we\u2019re locked down at this point on finding a path forward,\u201d Stewart said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The union announced Friday it had paused negotiations after Stellantis confirmed it intends to sell the idled Brampton Assembly Plant and entered into a memorandum of understanding with Canadian armoured vehicle maker Roshel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Stewart argues other automakers have backed up contract settlements with investments in Canadian facilities, something Unifor says is still missing from Stellantis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cFord and General Motors both made commitments including investments in their facilities, and that includes the CAMI facility out of Woodstock, and all we\u2019re saying to Stellantis is you need to do the same things. Make those commitments. And so far we\u2019re not there yet,\u201d Stewart said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He says losing a major automotive assembly plant would have consequences far beyond the workers directly employed there, affecting parts suppliers, engineering jobs and the broader community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Stewart added that, for now, bargaining remains paused while the union evaluates its next steps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis isn\u2019t just about Brampton.
