Prime Minister Mark Carney told a room of international investors in Toronto Tuesday that Canada is open for business and welcomes their investment to move major projects forward in Canada. <\/p>\n

Two of those projects listed on the Canadian Investment Summit Prospectus include two projects on Vancouver Island.<\/p>\n

Northisle Copper and Gold<\/a> has been exploring its North Island Project near Port Hardy for 15 years. It\u2019s made big discoveries with billions of pounds of indicated copper and gold so far, but it needs investment if it hopes to get to the mining stage.<\/p>\n

Enter Carney\u2019s investment summit in Toronto, where international investors are being wooed to spend their money in Canada, and maybe even on the North Island.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s the clearest signal we\u2019ve had that Canada is open for business,\u201d said Northisle Chief Financial Officer Nicholas Van Dyk. <\/p>\n

The Northisle North Island Project is on the list of prospective projects chosen by the federal government.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re now focused on moving forward and starting to develop our funding strategies, you know the substantial investment that\u2019s required to achieve a final investment decision on the project, just going through that process takes tens of millions of dollars,\u201d added Van Dyk.<\/p>\n

Carney addressed the crowd of investors and said, \u201cWe have assets, but we need complementary partners and we found a very receptive audience for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another Vancouver Island project that could benefit from being on the summit prospectus is the Port Alberni Transshipment Hub<\/a>, a proposed deep-water shipping port on the city\u2019s waterfront.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know we think it being highlighted on the summit prospectus is just really as a result of the hard work and advocacy of the Port Alberni Port Authority and the work they\u2019re doing to keep this project at the forefront of investor\u2019s minds,\u201d said Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a very worthwhile project; it\u2019s a large project, it needs a lot of investment, but we see it having benefits not just to our region but to the entire Canadian economy, so we\u2019re really excited that it\u2019s continued to be pushed forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

The transshipment hub would support 950 full-time permanent jobs in a city where the current largest employer has 350 workers. <\/p>\n

Both the North Island Copper and Gold project and Alberni\u2019s port might benefit from funding they can\u2019t get anywhere else.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think that the timing is actually perfectly right, and you know this project is being highlighted, I believe, alongside 16 other marine and port infrastructure projects, so it\u2019s a pretty small list of projects across the country that are being promoted at this level,\u201d Minions added.<\/p>\n

There is no timeline for investment decisions, but the Carney government has indicated it wants projects moving quickly.<\/p>\n
