Its first stop when entering the plant are the headworks facilities.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s where all the wastewater coming in from deep underground is collected. Then, it\u2019s pumped up to ground level where large pieces of debris and grit are removed, the city explains. This step helps protect the rest of the plant.<\/p>\n<p>Aecon also celebrated the announcement, stating it is \u201cproud to be helping deliver this vital project through Red River Solutions, our joint venture with Oscar Renda Contracting of Canada Inc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NEWPCC upgrade is the largest capital project in Winnipeg\u2019s history with an estimated cost of $3.1 billion in total.<\/p>\n<p>The city notes work is well underway on the remaining two projects.<\/p>\n<p>Project 2: Biosolids facilities. Construction is slated to start imminently.<br \/>\nProject 3: Nutrient removal facilities is currently in the procurement stage.
