\n\tContrary to a recent report, Universal is moving forward as planned with the international release of Alex Gibney<\/a>\u2018s Elon Musk<\/a> documentary \u201cMusk<\/a>,\u201d sources familiar with the project told Variety.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough a release date has not yet been set for the overseas rollout, that\u2019s not unusual for a film like \u201cMusk,\u201d a nearly 4-hour long documentary that\u2019s being released theatrically in North American on Oct. 9 by the indie distrib Bleecker Street.<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite recent legal threats from Musk over the documentary\u2019s content, Universal has always been enthusiastic about releasing the film internationally, the sources added. \u201cMusk\u201d is set to stream on HBO in the first quarter of 2027.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter the documentary premiered at the Venice Film Festival, the tech mogul began posting comments<\/a> on X, calling the doc \u201ca hit piece,\u201d though it was not clear whether he had seen the film. <\/p>\n

\n\tMusk asserted that Gibney had \u201cjust assembled a hit list of people who either have an axe to grind or don\u2019t even know me (but still have an axe to grind).\u201d Among the interviews featured in Gibney\u2019s film is one with Ashley St. Clair, a MAGA influencer who had a child with Musk. The documentary portrays a text exchange between the two about the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n

\n\tMusk\u2019s attorney Alex Spiro threatened to file <\/a>a defamation lawsuit before the film\u2019s release in October, pointing to Musk\u2019s texts with St. Clair.<\/p>\n

\n\tVariety critic Owen Gleiberman wrote in his review<\/a> of \u201cMusk\u201d in Venice, \u201cOnce you start piecing together Musk\u2019s scandals and cut corners and slipshod management, you see that he\u2019s a creator of mirages who promises more than he delivers \u2026 Musk, as the documentary makes clear, is a genuine if flawed technocratic visionary, a messianic opportunist, and something of a crackpot,\u201d <\/p>\n
