He threw a wild left that knocked Hocevar\u2019s hat off before crews and officials dragged them apart. Hocevar raised his arms to the grandstands. The Last Great Colosseum roared.<\/p>\n That was the first time anyone had actually gone after Hocevar after months of threats. It did not go the way the veteran hoped.<\/p>\n \u201cSomething is going to happen\u201d<\/p>\n The fight was born on Lap 457.<\/p>\n Blaney had just taken second from Hocevar after leading a race-high 202 laps. Hocevar had a run off Turn 4 and crossed under him into Turn 1. Blaney dropped to protect the bottom. Hocevar did not lift. Contact to the left rear spun the No. 12 Team Penske Ford into the wall. A pit-road penalty with just over 100 laps left had dumped him into traffic after he dominated the middle of the race. The wreck ended the comeback.<\/p>\n Outside the infield care center, before the checkered flag even flew, Blaney was asked if he planned to talk to Hocevar.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, something\u2019s going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n He waited. Logano did burnouts. Hocevar parked the No. 77 after finishing third. Then Blaney came through the crowd fast enough that Hocevar later said he knew it was not going to be a conversation.<\/p>\n \u201cI saw him and I was like, \u2018OK, he\u2019s moving pretty fast for a convo and then he grabbed me,\u2019\u201d Hocevar told reporters. \u201cAnd I was like, I\u2019m not going to wait. I\u2019ve seen enough of these. I\u2019m just going to start swinging and see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n He did. Two rights. Blaney down. Then the second wave, more shoving, one punch back from Blaney, and a pile of crew members in the middle.<\/p>\n \u201cThat was the first time I ever hit anybody,\u201d Hocevar said. \u201cIt\u2019s a cool story. At least that\u2019s gonna be at Bristol of all places.\u201d<\/p>\n Two versions of the same corner<\/p>\n Blaney\u2019s account of the wreck was blunt.<\/p>\n \u201cWe got clear off of there, off of four, and I tried to protect the bottom, and he crossed and never lifted and I got crashed,\u201d he said. \u201cI left him plenty of room for a lap before that. I didn\u2019t chop him. I didn\u2019t run him into the fence or nothing like I easily could have.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked who was at fault: \u201cOh, I don\u2019t f\u2014ing know. I got crashed. Each person is going to say they did nothing wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n Hocevar did not take the blame.<\/p>\n \u201cI wasn\u2019t trying to wreck him. It just looked like to me I got a run and kind of went left and he spun. I spun him,\u201d he said. \u201cThere wasn\u2019t a whole lot of talking. He just kind of said one thing and then went after me, and I wasn\u2019t going to take it.\u201d<\/p>\n Then the line that will follow both of them to Kansas:<\/p>\n \u201cThat was for second, and he wants to come fight. They got an old-school Bristol show here.\u201d<\/p>\n Hocevar later added that he understood the temperature. \u201cThat\u2019s probably his championship, so I understand 100 percent.
