The Blue Jays outhit Texas on Saturday but still lost 6\u20132, another damaging result for the Toronto club followed by fans across Brampton and Peel. The Rangers needed only five hits to score six runs, while Toronto\u2019s six hits produced two.<\/p>\n

The official MLB game record<\/a> confirms a final score of 6\u20132 at Globe Life Field on September 19. Toronto finished the night at 76\u201379, with Texas improving to 78\u201377.<\/p>\n

MLB reported<\/a> Toronto three games behind Chicago for the final wild-card place; the White Sox also hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.<\/p>\n

Blue Jays fall behind before the hits arrive<\/p>\n

Josh Jung\u2019s first-inning solo home run opened the scoring. Texas then added two runs in the second without a hit in that inning, taking advantage of Toronto\u2019s error and a wild pitch.<\/p>\n

The Rangers carried a 3\u20130 lead into the sixth. Toronto had remained hitless through five innings, even though Texas starter Cal Quantrill recorded only four outs before leaving the game.<\/p>\n

Jordan Montgomery supplied 3 2\/3 innings of hitless relief, walking one and striking out one. The official pitching record credits him with the victory. Quantrill and Montgomery together accounted for the first five innings without allowing a Toronto hit.<\/p>\n

Brett Bateman singled in the sixth, and Alejandro Kirk followed with an RBI single that brought home Andr\u00e9s Gim\u00e9nez. Toronto had narrowed the deficit to two runs, but the opening was brief.<\/p>\n

Texas answers with three in the sixth<\/p>\n

The Rangers scored three times in the bottom half. Wyatt Langford\u2019s double brought home Jung; Danny Jansen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded; and Evan Carter added a sacrifice fly.<\/p>\n

That sequence stretched the score to 6\u20131. Davis Schneider\u2019s solo home run in the seventh supplied Toronto\u2019s final run. The Blue Jays added two hits in the eighth but did not score again.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Soriano was charged with six runs, five earned, across five innings. He struck out eight, walked one and allowed four hits, throwing 80 pitches. Toronto\u2019s staff recorded 12 strikeouts overall, but the total could not offset the runs Texas manufactured around its limited hits.<\/p>\n

Schneider\u2019s homer was Toronto\u2019s only extra-base hit. The visitors struck out just four times and drew one walk. Getting the ball into play was not enough to generate a sustained rally.<\/p>\n

Kirk supplied two of Toronto\u2019s six hits in four at-bats. Bateman, Schneider, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Kazuma Okamoto accounted for the others. George Springer went hitless in four at-bats. The box score underlines the gap between collecting scattered singles and putting together the multi-run inning Toronto needed.<\/p>\n

A further pitching concern<\/p>\n

MLB reported Sunday<\/a> that Dylan Cease underwent a shoulder MRI and was scratched from Wednesday\u2019s start; results were pending.<\/p>\n
