The 2027 annual renewal for physicians and physician assistants is coming quickly and will run from Nov. 4 to Dec. 31, 2026.<\/p>\n
For the upcoming annual renewal, we want to highlight some important reminders and updates to ensure you are prepared to fill out your form(s) as accurately and efficiently as possible.<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t miss a message<\/p>\n
To make sure you receive all important annual renewal messages and reminders, please confirm that CPSA (info@cpsa.ab.ca<\/a>) has been added to your safe sender list and ensure your email address is up-to-date and unique (shared email addresses are not permitted). You can easily update your preferred email through your CPSA Portal<\/a>. Fees and payment options<\/p>\n 2027 annual fee reduced from $2,000 to $1,800<\/p>\n Last week, CPSA Council approved a reduction to your annual renewal fee(s) from $2,000 to $1,800 for physicians and from $500 to $450 for physician assistants (further prorated for other register categories). In addition, this reduced fee will also cover a one-time 13-month practice permit. Keep an eye on your inbox for updates and on October Messenger for a detailed breakdown of CPSA\u2019s budget and annual renewal fees.<\/p>\n As we mentioned in last month\u2019s Messenger<\/a>, starting this year, if you choose to pay your annual renewal fee by credit card, you will see a 2% credit card administration fee (e.g., $36 for a full 2027 practice permit or $9 for a physician assistant 2027 practice permit) applied to your final payment.<\/p>\n One way to avoid this fee is to sign up for Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) from your Profile in the CPSA Portal<\/a>. Through PAP, your 2027 fees are automatically withdrawn in December with no administrative charges applied. If you are already signed up, make sure to verify and\/or update your payment information through your CPSA Portal.\u00a0Keep an eye on your inbox for other incoming opportunities regarding annual renewal payment.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Identify your successor custodian<\/p>\n As detailed in CPSA\u2019s Patient Record Retention standard of practice<\/a> and CPSA Bylaws in accordance with the Health Information Act<\/a>, you are required to designate a successor custodian in case you are unable to continue your role as custodian of your patient health records.<\/p>\n In this year\u2019s renewal information form (RIF), you will be required to name the individual you have designated as successor custodian who is responsible for maintaining custody and control of your patient records should you be unable to do so yourself. If you have not done so already, you can use the Successor Custodian Template<\/a> to confirm an agreement between yourself and an identified successor custodian and then submit the information through CPSA\u2019s Custody of patient records form<\/a> to ensure you are ready when completing your renewal.<\/p>\n Read more about your obligations as custodian of health records and identifying a successor custodian from our past Are you up to Standard?
