The Chicago Bears<\/a> lost to the Minnesota Vikings<\/a>, 9-3, in Week 2’s brutal loss at home. It was a rough way to begin the season, especially with the Caleb Williams injury lingering over the franchise following the loss.<\/p>\n

While Williams’ injury might not be serious, the major drop-off in offensive performance from Week 1 to Week 2 is something that cannot be ignored. In fact, it was a history-making difference in production for the Bears.<\/p>\n

According to ESPN’s Ben Solak<\/a>, the 56-point difference between Weeks 1 and 2 for the Bears was the first time in 53 years that such a large point differential was seen in the NFL from Week 1 to Week 2 in NFL history.<\/p>\n

“Per ESPN Research: the Bears’ 56-point differential between Week 1 and Week 2 is the fourth-biggest point differential week-over-week in NFL history, and the biggest since 1973,” Solak shared.<\/p>\n

This is some brutal history for the Bears to make. It’s been 53 years since a team has seen such a massive difference in scoring production from one week to the next.<\/p>\n

In Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers<\/a>, this hyped Ben Johnson offense in year two with Williams put up a ridiculous 59 points on the road in a dominant win.<\/p>\n

Then in Week 2, the Bears at home lost to the Vikings 9-3, scoring 56 fewer points in Week 2 than they did in Week 1. It’s the fourth-biggest point differential from one week to the next in NFL history, according to Solak.<\/p>\n

Such a massive drop-off hasn’t been seen since 1973, which shows just how improbable this point drop-off for the Bears has been.<\/p>\n

The Vikings defense is elite, but the poor weather conditions played a big role in the offensive showing from the Bears in Week 2.<\/p>\n

Still, this feat of NFL history is not the kind of start to the year the Bears were hoping for. Colston Loveland, Luther Burden III, and Rome Odunze haven’t been nearly as productive as expected, and Williams is banged up with a hamstring issue.<\/p>\n

Whether it’s Tyson Bagent or Williams in Week 3, the Bears will hope to get back on track against a tough Eagles<\/a>‘ defense. It won’t be an easy matchup, but somewhere between their Week 1 and Week 2 performance would get the Bears back on track.<\/p>\n
