Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford whose death is being investigated as a suspected overdose, checked into a Southern California rehab facility hours before authorities found him unresponsive and \u201ccold to the touch,\u201d a law enforcement source told NBC News.<\/p>\n

Gerber checked into Resolutions Living of Santa Monica at 10 p.m. Saturday, the source said. He was found in the room where he\u2019d been sleeping, the source said, and he\u2019d likely been dead for some time when he was found.<\/p>\n

Santa Monica police have said Gerber\u2019s death was being investigated as a suspected overdose. <\/p>\n

Resolutions Living did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

Santa Monica police said they responded to a report of a possible overdose around 9:35 a.m., and when they arrived, officers found a deceased male. In a statement, the department said there was no indication of foul play.<\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing, police added.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said additional testing is necessary before a cause and manner of death can be determined. The department declined to provide additional details.<\/p>\n

A brief statement on behalf of Gerber\u2019s family asked for \u201cprivacy during this very difficult and painful time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gerber is the eldest child of supermodel Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, who married in 1998. He and his younger sister, Kaia, are both models and have been featured in campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein, among others.<\/p>\n

At 18, Gerber appeared alongside his mother in a 2018 ad recreating<\/a> her iconic 1992 Super Bowl<\/a> commercial for Pepsi. <\/p>\n

Gerber had posted online frequently about his struggles with depression and addiction. He instigated a program called \u201cMental Health Mondays\u201d on his Instagram account, where he spoke openly about his struggles. He said<\/a> he hoped to \u201cspark real conversations about the stuff most people hide.\u201d<\/p>\n

In November, he wrote <\/a>that he \u201chad to step back and take care of my own mental health for a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with Vogue magazine<\/a> last month, his sister spoke about his struggles.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn\u2019t share anything \u2014 and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, \u2018I\u2019m gonna be very human for everyone,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you\u2019re ashamed of them.\u201d <\/p>\n

In July, for her son\u2019s 27th birthday, Crawford posted two images online featuring<\/a> Gerber as a child and as a young teenager, writing: \u201cI\u2019m so proud of the man you\u2019ve become, but I\u2019ll always see you as my little boy! Love you.\u201d <\/p>\n

Tributes poured in after his death, with many of Gerber\u2019s celebrity friends remembering him for his \u201cbeautiful soul.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m completely heartbroken,\u201d Paris Hilton wrote on social media. \u201cI still can\u2019t believe this is real.\u201d <\/p>\n

She said Gerber had \u201ca beautiful soul\u201d and was \u201cso sweet, sensitive, kind and genuine.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI cared about you so much, and I\u2019m going to miss you more than words can say,\u201d Hilton posted. \u201cI\u2019ll always cherish the memories we shared \u2014 the laughs, the conversations, and just being around you. … I hope you knew how deeply loved you were and how many people cared about you.\u201d <\/p>\n

Brooklyn Peltz Beckham also went online to express how \u201cheartbroken\u201d he was over Gerber\u2019s death. <\/p>\n

\u201cPresley you were the kindest and we are going to miss you so much x we love you,\u201d Beckham wrote.<\/p>\n

In an Instagram post, Jason Kennedy said the news of Gerber\u2019s death made him \u201cfeel sick to my stomach.\u201d He remembered him as someone who had \u201ca huge heart.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHe was always open about his struggles because he knew it would help others and IT DID. I always felt a close bond with you Presley, I wish we got to spend more time together,\u201d Kennedy captioned a video of Gerber discussing his mental health challenges<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cWatching your parents love you the way they did was beautiful, I\u2019m heartbroken for them and your whole family,\u201d Kennedy continued. \u201cYou are at peace in Gods arms and I pray that same peace will cover all those who loved you. You were special.\u201d<\/p>\n
